I had the transmission ('19 aisin) flashed last week. Seems to shift much better, but have only driven it less than ten miles around town.

Why won't they tell you to have this done, but only do it if you complain?

Truck's been to the dealer before and they didn't mention this was available, because I didnt ask.

It costs money, so it's only done under warranty if there is a complaint. Best to check your truck for TSB's on occasion. When they exist, just complain of the issue to get the new software done under warranty.

Thanks Earl. I used to know where to look, but I dont presently.

I wonder what others are needed?

Allegedly they are working on one for the intermittent radio issues I have.

My new '20 is due to arrive any day. Any bets as to what flsh version I'll get??

Pretty sure the latest at time of manufacturing.
Vehicle system software is always evolving, an ongoing process. There is revision after revision, some we know, some we dont. Thats why it is so important to ask the dealer always if there is a new update out for the vehicle. A good dealer does it by himself when he plugs in the vehicle anyway at a service appointment.

Friends,

I was just out in my 2017 Ram 5500 Larimie getting the UConnect in the truck to resync so I can use the remote app on my phone. I was browsing through the menu and found I have the "Hill Start" feature selected, which to me is a transmission feature. I don't recall seeing it discussed before, but was wondering if folks complaining about the 1-2 and 2-1 shifts if this could have any affect on it.

Cheers, Ron

I turned mine "OFF" and IMO this improved things for the "Where is 1st" problem.

Hill Start assist does not affect transmission performance, it simply maintains the brake pressure the driver was previously holding for a few seconds after the brake pedal is released.

If you don't touch the brake or accelerator pedal after so many seconds the brakes will release and the truck will roll backwards.

From the owners manual.

The HSA system is designed to assist the driver in
launching a vehicle on an incline. HSA will maintain the
level of brake pressure the driver inputs for a short
duration once the driver takes his foot off of the brake
pedal. If the driver does not apply the throttle during this
short duration, the system will release brake pressure
and the vehicle will roll down the incline. The system will
release brake pressure in proportion to the amount of
throttle applied.
During operation, HSA will activate the brake control
system and a clicking noise may occur. If your foot is on
the brake pedal during operation you may feel a slight
pedal movement. The clicking and pedal movement is
normal and both will stop when HSA becomes inactive.

I am completely unaware of this HSA feature, but some of my issues might have been related I think.

Where is this feature located? I've not noticed it scrolling through the menus.

On simple change from forward to reverse or VV, it would have awkward lurches, like maybe it was fighting the brake, but thats just s guess.

Let expand on this.

At a full stop I have released the brake and hit the go pedal and it acts like it's not in gear on an incline. It did this to me a couple times new (just after I got it with less than 1K on the clock) and I thought I was going to be calling the hook for a bad trans. Maybe low ratio and stalling the converter on the locked brakes having RPM go up without moving? When I turned hill assist off it acts like it gets going quicker.

Maybe it's two separate issues now that I think about it.

My hill start assist is turned on, but I can’t ever recall it being used by the truck. The converter seems tight enough that it holds the truck on its own.

I’ve also never had the 2-1 issue.

I am coming up on my heaviest/steepest trip of the year so I’ll pay more attention.

.

My truck (68rfe) is immediately engaged if I get on the skinny pedal with a brief feeling of trying to overcome a heavy load. The slower I press down on the pedal the longer it takes for the brakes to release. If I get on it quicker and with a little more go power the brakes will release quicker.

Brake and throttle pressure are correlated when using this feature.

I almost daily drive a 5.7/8HP and it acts nearly identical although a touch more responsive, but that truck is very sensitive in 1st gear under all conditions.

I've never had issues with my shifting and have had the hill start assist turned on since the first week I owned the truck. I've had some incredibly steep starts up hills turning onto a highway towing heavy and never had rollback or any problems shifting. I like everything on my truck, except the voice response system on the 8.4Nav sucks.

Truer words never spoken. What a joke!

When I was in the military in the mid 90s, I implemented one of the first Interactive Voice Response Systems (IVRS), now Voice Response (VR) systems, in the military. There are very good VR systems out there with 98+% English language recognition rate, including accents and dialects. Car companies choose to go cheap, and what we have is the result.

The FCA one seems to do worse the harder I try... I think this is the way the Chinese are getting even with us.
