Anybody tried these?

turbo exhaust housings & wastegates

a buddy is going to try this. i thought i saw some mention of it not to long ago. wondering how it turned out. any thoughts? thanks

it is working good. I may take top turbo off and make wastegate larger to give better control of boost, it can peg 60 psi on tst box level 9 and egt's stay under 1300 deg. other than it's sweet.

I got all the parts. Robert Yoke is my hero. Did you bypass the brake with an external wastegate and did you use a spacer off the manifold for it, Robert?

Huh? Didja? :D

Thanks, Brian

I put a spacer in the manifold so I could add a external gate if needed.
I used a b1/o3 for my top turbo and they flow good so I dont need that external gate, if I do the other truck I will use the stock turbo and external gate, that may be some time from now.
If you are using the stock or a hybrid turbo, take the exhaust housing off and see if you can open the wastgate up. the stock hy has an 11/16 hole and the flaper is like an 11/8 inch so you could get a lot of flow by drilling that out bigger.

If someone has a b1/o3 off their truck, look at the waste gate and tell me if it looks like it could be opened up, so I dont have to take my off if it can not be drilled out. I would like a little more flow from that internal gate to control boost better. I am not shure what boost numbers I will see at sea level, I get over 60 psi here @ 5000 ft.

I am planning to do something similar to Roberts setup sometime this summer. I have the same top turbo and pacbrake. I was going to add an external wastegate to the setup for better boost control, but I don't think the exhaust brake would work very well with an external wastegate in the loop unless it is tubed in upstream of the brake. If you bypass the brake with the external wastegate, as the backpressure builds in the engine when the brake is engaged, the pressure will just be relieved through the wastegate limiting the amount of back pressure to the size of spring in the wastegate (i. e. 20psi).

jeff, I thought about that and if you pressurize the top of the external wastegate with the same line that feeds your pac brake it should keep it closed.
trying to feed to the top side of your pac wont work unless you cut into you pac and weld to it, and there is not alot of room for that.

do let me know if you take your b1 off so maybe I can get some pictures of the inside exhaust housing, unless I just bite the bullet and take this one apart and have a look, before then.

Robert, thats one of the options I was thinking about. The other one was to use the pacbrake to the second 45deg elbow and use a pipe elbow in line first. I am not sure if there will be room for that though. I was thinking of trying to see if the exhaust elbow off a 04. 5 truck (being 4" all the way through) would work as the top elbow. I need to find out if the outlet is the same size as the inlet of the pacbrake, if it is, it will be a cheap elbow with the v-bands already on it.

If I get a chance to pull off my turbo, I will definitely check out the wastegate size and send you some pics! If it can be resized it may solve all the problems right there.
