the tone ring for my ckp sensor broke off the crankshaft. i pulled my engine and got the parts. but it looks like i have to pull the crankshaft to install it. i tried for an hour today and i couldnt find a way to get it on the crank. i am just checking to see if anyone has any experience with this. everyone i talk to has never heard of this happening. i am getting depressed the more i look at my truck these days. i love my truck, but i cant believe it did something like this. i am also looking for an engine stand strong enough to hold my engine while i am servicing it. anyone have any suggestions. thanks.

He had a picture of an ISB on a stand in his shop. He also does a lot of internal work on them and may be able to answer the tone ring question.

By the service manual it says it can be installed while rotating the crankshaft, large section first. They mention removing the #6 main bearing cap. I've put screws back in one, but never had the large section off. I've heard of this happening, and it sometimes breaks the crankshaft, the block, or both. I thought '98. 5 and '99's were the only years that had them internal. Guess at least some 2000's too. Loctite those screws! 71 inch pounds torque.

mine is actually a late 99. the engine was built in oct. 99. i must have gotten lucky. but it didnt even damage the pan. yes i know 71 inch lbs. and loctite 242. thanks for the replys.
