Easy swap. Done mine a couple times and now just ignore the ding ding on occasion. I refuse to have the reflash done because all it does is tell the lil' needle on the dash to stay put in the "Safe" zone. The Cummins can lock up but that good ol guage will read good
For those who wonder about if their rig has been flashed, just turn the key to the on position WITHOUT the engine running. Your guage SHOULD be at zero. For those who are welcomed by a needle sitting in the safe area ... welcome to the Fox 5 special "When engineering goes bad" :-laf
The Mopar Markup is a wonder all in itself sometimes and that is a perfect example.
Installing a "real" oil pressure gauge is not a huge job and it will "really" report the "true" oil pressure. I had NO IDEA the OEM oil pressure gauge was a "fake" until I installed a real one just to double check. I was reading threads that guys were having sensor failures. I tow heavy and did not want to have to make a split second decision to save my engine.
$19 doesn't sound right either. My oil pressure sensor died a couple of years ago. I pulled over a couple times before I figured out it must be the sensor. Dodge dealer wanted around $200. I got it from Cummins. It ended up costing me about $70 after returning the core. It's been working fine since. I won't even go in the Dodge parts door anymore. DJ
NO. . Plus the fact that the reflash may not work as planned, and you will have 40 lbs of oil pressure BEFORE the engine starts. Subsequent flashes only gave me:
1. ) No oil pressure,
2. ) 40 lbs of oil pressure and a low oil pressure warning at the same time.
Mine worked worked fine after replacing the sensor. At the time, the dealer reflashed it, but it didn't "fix" it. I'm not using my original ECM anymore
Just put one in my 2000, took about 10 minutes or less. I did it from above using 1 1/4 deep socket and 4" extention. My socket is a impact socket and worked fine. My arms are short and it's a long reach but can be done. Everything works great now!
