we have lots of 6BT's at work, and almost all the ones I have seen have Fleetguard Coolant filters on them. Would it hurt to do the same to a motor with 221k? we use an additive to the coolant, and when I checked mine tonight, it showed it needed some additive to neutralize the silicates or something like that. Anyways, I think it would actually be benificial, but please chime in and correct me if I am wrong. Thanks a million,

My tractors have them too(8. 3 cummins), I think it would be a great idea. I might put one on mine this winter.

The coolant filters are on the C8. 3 series because of the "wet" cylinder liners. The coolant filter slowly releases additives to prevent cavitation erosion on the liners which is a problem with "wet" liners.

Wouldnt it help with stopping cavitation in our water jackets and such?? We may not have wet liners, but still. I am just asking, and need as much info as I can get. Thanks!

There is no cavitation problem on the 6B series so no additives are required. I don't see any harm in adding a filter but IMHO it's not needed if you keep your cooling system clean and have the proper coolant in it. I would personally flush the cooling system before I put anything in to correct a weak additive package.
