Just curious... Hope someone has. Otherwise I am going to be the pioneer, so long as the bank lets me!!! transmission shop wants wayy too much to fix 4500. . Talked to Blumenthal, and got better deal on 5600, new vs 176,000 mi... So, my new project is going to be slowly rebuilding my 4500... no hurries. . just a project. Replies would be appreciated!

I looked at a 96 that was 4 sale here in Oregon that had the 6sp upgrade.

Do you want the phone number if I can find it ?

Chris I'm sure your bank is gonna love getting your paychecks for the next couple of years! :-laf

You can do alot of fixing to a NV4500 for the cost of a NV5600, not incluing the rest of the parts needed for the swap. What all is tore up in your NV4500?

I believe a lot of it also has to do with time. As Chris stated he plans to rebuild his NV4500 over time then he can sell it and make some of his $$ back. :D

I know that Chris's uses his truck for work though and he can't be without it for very long.

Thanks Mark... they want almost the same amount of money to repair my transmission, that it costs to buy a new 5600, -0- miles, with an adaptor kit. I found a place here in town to bore out the hole for the input shaft on the flywheel (NEED THE SPECS) for under 50 bucks, and already talked to Peter about the bigger clutch. It looks like I am going to upgrade to the CON FE, as opposed to the OFE with the bigger disc. Now, what all is tore up: to my understanding, the input shaft is worn out, 4th gear is worn out, tailshaft housing is shot, and I cannot think of what else they told me. As far as work; yes, It is hurting me to not have my truck, as I can be hauling round bales, horses, cows, and other stuff as well... It's ok, because when I get it all going, I am going to need the extra money to pay off the bank! they sure love me there!! I will keep y'all updated!

The input shaft and 4th gear are basicaly the same thing. you don't even have to tear into the transmission to replace that. Just pop off the front bearing retainer and your there. Is your truck 2 or 4 wheel drive? If its a 4 wheel drive, I can hook you up with the parts to fix it. PM me if you are interested. :)

I recently just swapped a broken NV 4500 for a 5600 and I really like the truck for the pulling that I do with that extra gear. The swap was a little on the time consuming side though as I did it myself with the truck only on blocks. Make sure that you have one heck of a transmission jack because that six speed is a big transmission. IN my case not everything that I needed to do the install was included in the kit from Blumenthals. Depending on the year of your truck you might have to get a different crossmember or make something like I did to fit the six speed. Certain later years already have the right crossmember. But the older ones didn't. Good luck, pm me if you need any other help.
