When I had the rear seat out I noticed a lot of exposed sheet metal and wondered how much of a difference putting Dynamat there would do for cab noise. Any thought or experiences?:)

I had mine out today as well. Yes that area really needs coverage.

There has been a lot of discussion on the subject and a new paint on type product.

Do a search and look out for Greg the NOISE NAZI! (Lsfarm)

I tried it...

Saw that big piece of metal and covered the entire thing with a couple sheets of DynaMat.

I figured it couldn't hurt.

I did not notice a reduction in noise per say, but the stereo hits the bass tighter now.

Was it worth it? Dunno, but like I said, probably didn't hurt, and I feel the stereo is just a bit more responsive.

Yes, you're correct - it will make a difference. If you want to make a REAL difference in sound quality, you should seriously consider dynamat ( or other equivalent material) in the doors, side panels and floor. It's a lot more hassle to prep but IMO, you only do it once and it's well worth the effort.

FWIW, I installed a mounting board on top of the dynamat behind the rear seats in my Quadcab and this then provides an excellent platform for mounting all the goodies :-laf.

I see from your sig file you're well on the way to ICE-bomb status. You might want to run a search in the TDR forums ont his topic - there was a thread a few months back about a very knowledgable TDR member who fabricated some kick panels with integral speakers in the footwell, rather than use the factory door positions. Good luck with your own plans!!

Yes. I stuck some sound deadener from B-Quiet behind the back seat of mine. It reduces the high frequency 'grass' that comes from back there. The results are subtle, but noticeable. Like someone turned down the white noise a tad. I'd do it again.

I did my truck and it made a noticable difference in the road noise and muffler/resonator drone. I saved big $ by buying from http://www.mcmaster.com/ I used Polymeric Mastic which is part number 9709T19 It works at least as well as Dynamat imo, but is much cheaper. The stuff really sticks and molds well if you set it in the sun to warm it up first. The hardest part was getting the "B" pillar covers off without breaking the connectors off. I also put it in the space just behind the doors and in the doors themselves.

I used B-quiet also...

Beaver tail.

3 layers on the back wall

2 layers on the doors and floor. I think the doors made the greatest improvements.

I did the lead and it came out real nice. Get it at your local roofing wholesaler .comes 1'x 20' about 1. 50 sq ft or a 3' x20' same price per sq ft. contact cement or liquid nails is actually easier and safer. RJ

Look in the yellow pages for roofing wholesalers. Go down there in person and they will usually sell direct retail also.

In Daytona the best price is going to be B&F Roofing.

On long trips I unbolt the rear seat and put in a bed I made so the wife can sleep while I drive. The bare metal looked terrible on the back of the cab... and it was sometimes pretty cold if you rolled over and touched it! I glued carpet on the back of the cab to match what is on the floors. It made a noticeable difference in the noise in the cab too.

I do not doubt that the special sound deadening stuff would REALLY make a difference if just a piece of carpet made a difference!!! I think it also made the cab easier to heat or cool.

Hey Kiemmmo, you got any photos of that bed? I need to make something to make the floor flat for cargo (dog in a crate). Works with the seat in, but I have it out right now and love the extra room.

I don't have any way to post a picture. But, if you'll give me an e-mail address I'll give you a GOOD discription!

I did the whole back with Dynomat Extreme. Made a big difference. I had muffler drone before but after the install I hear no noise until at least 2200 rpm. Made me happy. :)

Used Dynamat on the back wall, the floor and don't forget the echo chambers that are on the side walls of the non-Quad cabs. My Ext Cab had alittle insulation behind the rear panels. added left over pieces of Dynamat and then increased the amount of insulation. Used R-19 that was sealed in plastic from Home depot jsut to fill up the space between the outer sheet metal and the inner sheet metal.

Made a big difference and worth the money. I bought up some Dynamat from Circuit City that was having a sale. It was about 50% off- just happened to catch a good deal.

Also sealed up the holes in the floor sheet metal panels to eliminate any sound "tunnels". If you pull up the carpeting, you'll know what I mean. I used the expanding foam spray insulation and filled all the nooks and crevices used about 3 or 4 cans of the low expansion stuff (so as not to cause any metal bending)

:D

Yes it helps,

I filled the box member under the rear window with insulation foam. Then I fitted up a new piece of carpeting with the pile towards the metal and pop riveted it to the sheet metal.

Dodge overlooks things like that an then speaks of quality in the brochures. Just more Dodge/Daimler bu#####t!!
