6.0 L News story

Just wondering if the valve springs need to be changed on the engine to install a pacbrake. Also does anyone have a part number to the valve spring compressor need to install new springs. It has an allison trans behind it also and I believe that there is a controller that is needed for the trans. Any info would be appreciated. Thanx
 
I believe the valve springs will depend on the engine build up specs, take or call your serial number to your nearest Cummins Distributor and they should be able to tell you. Be carefull I know you mentioned a controller for thr transmission And I'm not sure what all is involved, but some of the manual shift Allisons were worthless as the Pac-Brake doesn't work if there is no converter lockup. The Allison World transmissions just need a parameter set in the controll ECU I believe. Yes, the Pac-Brakes work excellent as long as the transmission is correct. As far as the spring compressor, I bought an automotive type off the shelf at NAPA to do the Dodges', it is a two jaw type and it should work fine on a C- 8. 3.

It is a lock-up trans a 545 model (I think). Doesn't the pacbrake have some wiring that tells the trans to go into lock-up when the brake is engaged? This whole motorhome thing is kind of new to me. Thanx for your help.
 
I looked at a spec sheet on-line and it said a 545 was not a lockup transmission. This is why I say be careful. It also said a 545 was only rated for 235 input HP 445 input torque, I would think your C series is probably @ 275-300Hp so you may not have a 545. Yes something has to tell it to stay in lockup.



Maybe some one else with more expertise will jump in like Even Beck. Or crawl under it and get the numbers off the data tag and call youre Allison dealer.
