It seems like everyone has upgraded to a 285 or larger tire, especially if you have the factory 16x8 wheels like I do.

Is there any reason other than cost to stick with stock 265 size tires?

I know that larger rubber puts more stress on steering and axles, etc. I just want to know if anyone has stayed with the 265 size for a while, and if so, how come they did.

Thanks.

Well I can say I have stuck with the 265's. On my 96 before my current 01 and on the current 01. Reason being just havent seen the need to change, I did order both trucks with the 265 tires. Not that it wouldnt look better with larger tires and all that but just no real need too. Nor have I found tires in a size that meet "my" criteria larger than 265 at least yet or that I am willing to spend money on (not neccessarily just the money for the tires). I have found over the many years that everytime you change something it effects something else and many times with unplanned results or side effects. Changing tire sizes can have many side effects as you are aware ie they dont fit quite correctly and rub, they dont fit the wheel correctly, they change shift points, speedometer, gearing, life of front end components, wont fit in the garage anymore, etc etc etc. Many if not most all people can live with whatever those side effects are and some of those side effects are sought after, others have to be dealt with which in many cases the fix introduces even more side effects and or expense. I can usualy live with the side effects as well as the next guy. However for me, at this time, with this truck and the 3. 55 gears I am not willing to put up with the side effects, the cost/benefit is not there for me.

OEM's all the way

I have the stock size tires on my truck and probably will not change it. I used to play with lifted trucks and big tires all the time, but in my old age (mid 30;s) I am no longer impressed by the same things. I want to keep the nose down out of the wind for mileage and like you don't need any added stress on the front end. I may consider a change to lower my cruising RPM for noise reasons, otherwise I like my truck to look as stock as possible.

BTW I still think lifted trucks look cool ;)

I don't need anymore floating

from the larger tires - hey my truck came std with 245's and I think most did... . I upgraded to the 265's and will not go any wider... ... .

I stuck with 265's because my gooseneck horse trailer is level now, with the gooseneck set at it's shortest adjustment. Any thing taller, the trailer tilts, anything wider, and I have more concerns about sidewall pressure with the weight of the trailer.

i had a 265 on my 01 and went to a 285 but now iam going back to the 265, i lost power and MPG, but it looks good with the 285's

it's up to you, looks or power and mpg.

My 96 came with 245's and I upgraded to a set of 255/85/16's. Not as wide as the 265's but an inch taller. I didn't want the width, just the height to help out with the low gear ratios.
