Has anyone tried 16's on their 3500?

I have the opportunity for a screaming deal on a pair (front and rear) of AAM axles off an '03 3500 DRW. I'd like to upgrade my '94 to the newer style brakes but I'd like to keep my old wheels (I have multiple sets and used 16's are free).

I did some searches and saw a couple posts that said that 16's won't fit but has anyone physically tried to mount a 16 wheel on a 3rd gen?

Extreme1,

I'm looking for a set of stock 16" wheels for my 98 dually.

I want to have them powder-coated and ready, for when I buy my new tires.

PM me if you would like to do something on this.

TIA, Ray

16" wheel will not clear the brake calipers. Bigger brakes necessitated the switch to 17" wheels.

That's what I've heard but has anyone tried to bolt one up? I'm wondering how bad it is. The front must clear, check out the second post. If you look at the parts images on NAPA.com, you can see the difference between the '02 and '03 calipers. The fastening points moved in (toward the center of the wheel) on the '03 to match the larger rotor.

The axles I'm looking at have wheels on them but I'd need tires and I have an almost new set (rears) plus my set of Dodge accessory forged aluminums. Did I mention I had a few wheels? Hi Ray!

They are not going to fit. The reason I have 18" wheels on my truck is because most 17" aftermarket wheels are "thicker" than the stock steel wheels, they would not clear the calipers.
