Has anybody out there tried the Muffler Eliminator Kit from Geno's Garage? I do not have access to a welder and don't want to pay someone a couple hundred bucks to take out the existing muffler and weld in a pice of pipe. Can it be done with a Sawzall and a couple of wrenches?

I am finally sick and tired of listening to my rattling P. O. S. stock muffler and want to get rid of it. A friend of mine took his out and it made a 150 degree difference is Bombed Exhaust temps. It also sounds real nice. Not too loud at all. Just a little more authority, kind of like a big rig.

Sean, it should cost less than $100 to have that done. All you need is a piece of 3" flared at both ends. You don't have a converter so you don't need the pipe Geno's offers because it is set up to reduce a 4" at the converter to 3" after the muffler.

Sean when I still had a cat I had this and it was a weldless add on.

Sean, heating the muffler flange almost red with a torch and wiggleing it is the easyest way to remove. I didn't want to sawzall because I thought I might have to reinstall everything and didn't want to be short 4" of pipe. I bought 4' of 3"id exaust pipe(same size as muffler in and out) from NAPA for $22,mine also needed a reducer since it had a cat,and 3 clamps. You can notch the ends of the pipe with your sawzall if need be. Without a cat your pipe will be shorter than mine and you might be able to reuse the 2 clamps,I'll bet you can do it for under $20,sound better than Genos'?Models may variey,so don't trust my numbers, best to measure.

So what you are saying is the Muffler Eliminator kit from Geno's is for pre 98. 5 trucks with the Catalytic Converter? It appears that the pipe coming out of the resonator is about 4" but I am not certain.

My friend got prices and everybody wanted about $175 to do the job. He finally found somebody to do it for $75 but they stretched the 3" pipe on one end to about 3-1/2 then filled the rest with a really crappy looking weld.

Sean,
I have a Geno's ME on my 99 Ram now and the fit is excellent. Like everyone has already said, the most difficult part is getting the original muffler off. The installation is easy and the sound is pretty good. Others on this forum have had muffler shops make them a pipe similar to the ME for less money. Might be worth checking with your local muffler shop. I am currently making a custom straight exhaust for my truck (4" turbo down pipe split into dual 3" tailpipes with 4" stainless tips and no muffler). Are you interested in my used ME? It only has about 1200 miles on it. I am going to be taking it off in a couple of weeks. Best of Luck...

Sean, my thoughts above stem from the thought that you would remove the resonator with the muffler. It is 4" from the resonator to the muffler.
