I see the need for more tire contact patch on the front of my truck, has anyone tried a tire that has the same diameter as the stock LT235 85 16" but with a wider foot print?? The LT265 75 16" and the LT235 85 16 offered by many tire makers have the same diameter.

True the 265 would like to run on a rim 1" wider than the std. dually rim.

Rotation of tires could go from side to side big tires up front change sides and the four in the back change

Am I stuck with one choice of tire size?

what do you think?

In the market for new tires.

I had 285's on the front of mine until one of the sidewalls started to bubble out. so i went back to the 235/85's. one thing i noticed on mine was the front had a bit more side to side 'movement' when turning sharp.

Today I saw a parked Chevy dually it had 265 75's all the way around it looked pretty good as tire sizes. two things that stuck out were that the rear tires were touching each other at the side wall bulge. The front tires do not fit the skinny 6" rims with out significant crowning of the tread.

Still looking... ...

Take off the spacers up front and bolt up a standard rim. Mount up a set of 255/85/16's for the 4 rears and a 33X10. 50R16 size in the fronts and you have one mean lookin rig!

EDIT: only 2001+ rims will fit 255/85's without rubbing in the rear. Oh and are the 2500 and 3500 calipers the same?

THINKING OF THIS MY SELF BUT CANT FINE SHINY WHEELS THAT ARE THE SAME FOR STD AND DUALLY'S LIKE WELD WHEELS ANYONE HAVE ANY IDERS?

8" Wide Wheel On Front

And I totally forgot that a 10. 50 tire is common on 15 inch rims. You COULD allways do 255/85/16's all around. They are a 33. 6" tire and really are not THAT wide but would look killer. Look at mine in my gallery.

Geewiz guys, dont'cha know that a "real" Dually must have dually wheels on all four corners, or it looks ho'made! That's most as bad as a true dually running singles on the rear or worse yet 3 tires! If you do mix wheels and tires, make sure they are the same diameter.

Yup, bout' as ugly as an Edsel, Ha... Seriously, that does look good, the wheels all match. What size are they? They look like about 20", also look expensive. I would hate to have to put a set of three "railers" on the rear, looks like no space between the tires. I still like the Budd Wheel look better, kinda go's with the Cummins and big rig look. Those wheels look like Hemi Powered "stuff"..... sorry!

Got to agree with bmoeller here ... each to their own tastes ... but not felling any warm fuzzies here.

Ten bucks says the truck steers better as the centerline of the rim won't be behind the hub like a traditional duallie. Because of it's nature the offset is dead nuts over the bearing where standard is a little bit positive thus giving better feedback. It should steer like a 2500.

Isn't the centerline of the stock dually wheel with spacer, the same as the centerline of the stock 2500 wheel? On any given front axle, the closer the centerline of the wheel is to the center of the kingpin/balljoint, the less effort is required to turn the wheels and less disruption of steering by road surface. I can't tell by the pictures, but it looks like the after market wheels are about the same offset as stock, so steering should be ok.
