2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Has anyone used a RV flourescent for a under hood light?

Seems that would be a neat toy to add. It certainly would be alot brighter.

Sounds like it might work. Had a friend who installed one in his motorhome and he claimed that it damaged something internal on his refridgerator. The tech. who repaired the refridgerator told him that he mounted the light too close to the fridge and that it caused some internal component to be damaged. Sounds strange but it's enough to cause me not to want to add this type of light to either my travel trailer or truck.

Unless you used the ones that are designed for cold weather.

Had one in a topper once. When it's really cold it won't even come on. The neatest under-hood light I've seen was the one in my '91 GMC. It was on a reel where you could pull it out and the light had a magnetic base that would stick to most everything. It would reach all the way around to the back of the truck. Used it once to get the spare out in the dark when my flash light batteries were dead.

Had one of those reel lights on my very first brand new Dodge... 89 model 1/2T... sure wish they still made those things... it was real nice. I was shocked the forst time I pulled it out and it had enough cord to reach all the way to the tailgate.

I kept mine off my old 95 C2500. It was too good to sell with the truck. My grandpa still has one on his F-150 that came off a Pontiac car he had in the 50's. It's in an all metal housing and really a neat gadget. I think it even has a glass instead of a plastic lens.

Dunno about the type of florescents discussed here - but conventional ones usually do NOT tolerate vibration very well - the phosphor material that coats the inner envelope of the bulb and actually provides the light is usually rather fragile, and will deteriorate and fall of with vibration - but perhaps these newer types have overcome that tendency...
