I gotta say, yes it has...
but what it did to this trucker makes me cringe.

I don't use gps. I look up my destination ahead of time, make a mental map or write down some simple notes and drive the old fashion way.

Mine (garmin) has tried to lead me astray a couple of times. But, I usually have a pretty good idea of where I want to go and know if it is making a mistake. Usually when this happens, and I go the right way, the gps reconfigures itself and gets back on track.

Yes. There was one time where TomTom rerouted in a construction zone in Merced, CA and sent us up CA Hwy 49..later a roadside sign said not recommended for vehicles with more than 3 axles...no place to turn around...and the organic computer counted two on the truck...one...two on the trailer. AARRGGHH!!! 4... We lived the next 30 miles recreating Lucy and Desi in the Long, Long Trailer. Then there was Utah Hwy 12...Thunder and lightening, high winds...The wife had fingers dug into the dash and armrest and refused to open the window so I could deposit TomTom "somewhere in the wilderness 300 feet straight down" and no shoulder or guardrails. Microsoft Streets and Trips was by far the best as you could see the surrounding roads and adjust resolution as needed for fine tuning and situational awareness. The road atlas has now retaken the map pockets and Streets and Trips, while aging well, still gets us comfortably along without surprise rerouting.

My present log landing is on an old town road. It’s been officially abandoned since the 1950s. I can’t keep track of how many FedEx, UPS, National Grid Electric, and private vehicles I’ve stopped and asked where they thought they were going. Every time the answer is “ This comes out on Gardner Road” . Well, it did 60 years ago. Every one of them were following GPS. This road hasn’t been on a map since 1970. Can anybody say UPDATE the databases.

We have the Blue Ridge Parkway where I live. It's Federal land. My GPS has tried to put me on it several times without warning. I carry a pistol and drive a 1 ton van. Both are restricted and one is a felony.

No, my Rand McNally has never routed me incorrectly. I do update the unit about every three months or so, since I have life time maps. Although the only time we use the GPS is when I am towing my 5er. The unit is set up for the 5er/truck length, weight, height and carrying propane tanks.
I also carry a current atlas and state maps when we travel out of state.
