2010 Cab Noise?

I wanted to show the girlfriend the new Dodge today but a local dealer didn't have any new trucks.

But, the Ford dealer next door had a new 450 4x4 Lariat. Have to say that motor is pretty impressive. Pulls like a freight train until I backed off at 80.

transmission was great but didn't seem real smooth or timed right between 1st and 2cnd. Every other gear was like silk.

Liked everything about this truck as did the boss. Quiet, smooth, powerful and a really comfy cab. Even the 450 DWR rides smoother than my 250.

Only downside was a $64k price tag. Even at invoice minus $3k rebates probably still looking well over $50k.

Still want to show the GF the Dodge, but she really liked the Ford.

I wasn't really able to test drive the Dodge like I did this one, but Ford seems like it has much more power and for the purpose of carrying a camper has more payload. However, for my use the Dodge has plenty of power and is about $10k less.

Only unknown thing is how long the furd turd will stay on the road and after Warr. is up how in the heck are you going to pull the cab at home so you can work on the broke down junk ????

I haven't even stepped on a Furd lot in years. Nothing there interests me.

No thanks, Henry. You can keep your Furds.

And that is why I keep driving old diesels, my old 7. 3 PSD included I dont dont need a steelership to fix the common problems:-laf

Same Here

I drove one as well, and your right.

I liked the Cab,Looks, Sound, and ride height of the F-350. I still would never take a chance with it.

Even with the power difference the 6. 7 CTD has been around longer. 350/650 is plenty of power.....

Not to mention the Cab, Ride, and MSRP says Dodge all the way. ;)

Mac:cool:

Regarding horsepower wars, it wasn't that long ago that OTR semis only had 300 hp. We have a 2001 Sterling at work with a Cat C7 that is rated 300/820 and runs at 48,000 lbs through hills and traffic all day. The only driver that ever says it isn't enough is the guy that normally drives our Mack with 460 hp.
So, let's say Cummins changes their tuning and makes 450/850, and Ram makes suspension changes and an 8 speed trans rated to pull 25,000 lb trailers. What does that really mean for you/me? Bragging rights? Yep, that's really it. More people will buy Ram trucks, driving up the demand/price.

With the modifications I have done to my truck, I would guess I have at least 450/850 like the theoretical truck I mentioned above, and I never use it all. In fact, I have my tuning turned down close to stock when I tow, and never need more than I have. So, in my opinion, if Ram can keep their trucks the way they are, figure out how to bring fuel efficiency back, and keep them dependable, I'll continue to buy from them.

I have a few comments:

- For that kind of $$, why risk not being happy with a new Ford. You could find a really nice used CTD and a really nice boat or RV and still have money leftover for mods, tires, fuel, food, etc... ;)

- my experience with GF's is that they should have ZERO say in what you purchase unless: a) they are paying for it or b) they are a Victoria's Secret model. OK, I know that both a) and b) are pure fantasy... :-laf

- If you have the $50k or $64k in cash burning a hole in your pocket, go buy the home of your dreams using that as a down payment. Home prices continue to fall due to bank owned properties. I'm serious on this one...

My son is an assistant manager at a very large local dealership. He tried to get me to buy a Furd. NOPE. Bought a 2010 Dodge CTD instead, my 3rd. :-laf

Did you know that 90% of the Furds Powerjokes are still on the road. The other 10% finally made it home.

On the CAB removal thing, they have made it so that the cab doesn't need to be removed any more to work on them.

After the Warranty your going to have double the expense, LIKE the AlternaterS--Water pumpS--,Turbo??????

Do You really want to be a Test BED owner for the FURD guys??????????????

One thing about it IF-your working on the engine and you drop your WRENCH, it won't hit the ground... . No way. :-laf :-laf

Got to hand it them though, for steppin up.

Great comments by all.

I wouldn't take the risk of owning a Furd, they are too complex and too expensive, and I don't let my wife pick my trucks either. I have seen several of those Furds that haven't made it home on the highway near my farmhouse.

Furd diesels are worthy of Saturday night comedy shows.

havent tried any ford that are newer than middle of 90s but gm ive driven a few times. .

i can agree that comfort isnt the main thing you will find in a dodge but i will never trade the cummins. .

inline engines have bigger stroke and will give more torque

on the other hand i do never tow and almost never put somthing on my bed (if i dont count beer as load) but i will know for sure working with a engine in a gm or ford will be alot more **"¤#"%#"%"# and i belive cummins will run longer last longer

I would wait till that engine has years before I would even think of it. Most likely Cummins is sitting back and waiting to move ahead of the pack. I have never seen a PS with over 200,000 miles

I have to say that i like the look of fords, but that is it... my friend owns a machine shop and all he has is ford p. s motors there... very seldom does he have a cummins, and if he does it has a lot of miles... and not very often does he get duramax in the shop... that tells you alot..... the dodge truck will fall apart way before the motor does... ... :-laf

After suffering the ownership of a ford f450, and buying the 011 4500, this would be my advice for what its worth, besides opening the hood and looking at that gawd awful mess the new ford engine is, if you thought the plumbing on a 6. 4 was a nightmare, look at the new one. then ask the dealer to put on the rack so you can look underneath, then do the same with the Dodge, even my wife with absolutely NO mechanical aptitude could see how much better the fit, finish, design is of the dodge cab, wiring, plumbing, exhaust etc. The ford has alot of power but their planning is still done obviously by multiple committees that don't drive, or work on trucks. If I had to work on fords for a living, I would be the best I could be at something else.

I had to drive our works 6. 7 F350 4x4 today and I truly hate that truck, The engine does have some power once it decides what it want to do but the throttle response is HORRIBLE! Was towing a trailer up some steep narrow windy hills, going real slow around some tight corners then give it some pedal to move again, nothing happens so I give it some more and more, then 3 seconds later when it figures out what to do I have it at half throttle and it just spins the tires and is very difficult to predict. The regular cabs are not very comfy, feels like they have lazy boy seats in a cab size designed for milk crates, way to crowded for me.

I too was impressed with the overnight 2011 test drive Ford Lariat F350 SRW priced at $63K. It had very smooth power, it was extremely quiet and drove nice on the smooth roadway. I really like their evic in the dashboard with all of the info it provided.

What concerned me was the ride over rough roadway. I had to quickly throw my cell phone on the seat and take control of the wheel with both hands. It kinda of scar me the way the truck was reacting. The second was the height of the truck. I felt that it might be a pain to get things all aligned with a 5th wheeler. Then next was the $63K price tag with almost no incentives and not much off of the sticker price. Then of course is the most important: How was the engine and trans going to hold up over the long run. That is a LOT of money for an untested real world setup... I wasn't about to be the first to find out.

My truck is fully loaded at 55K with nice incentives. It is the nicest truck, or vehicle I've ever owned.
