I have a 2001 Ram Diesel pickup, automatic transmission w/overdrive, short wheelbase.

My question is this: How much weight can I tow (RV Trailer) and continue to use the overdrive on my transmission. Or, how much weight can I haul (such as a Lance Lite Camper) and still use my overdrive on my transmission.

With the cost of fuel and as much as I am out camping the answer could have a very impact on my limited funds.

As long as the transmission isn't hunting in and out of O/D, run it in O/D. If you have 3. 55 gears, don't engage O/D til you hit 55. You want to keep the line pressure up in the transmission.

More pressure = less chance for transmission or torque convertor lock-up clutch to slip.
