afternoon everyone,

i have a new 2003 3500 HO dualie... ... after searching the archives i see that quite a few owners have reported a vibration at about the 60-70 mph mark, mine comes in about 63 mph and goes away at about 67mph. has this ever been definitively solved?

also i have low oil pressure at idle, would guess about 20 psi like alot of others have , i read alot of posts claiming that the oil guage is just an "idiot light" w/ a needle, BUT i would assume that most of us trust our gas guage, water temp, volt guage , speedo, ... so why do so many think the oil pressure guage would be any less accurate?

finally what is the most common brand/part # additive to add to my fuel to help protect the pump?

thanks,

steve

Risk it all... Fly it like you stole it !!

Steve,

No definitive answer that I can glean. Seems some complaints were solved with a rear driveshaft/transfer case replacement.

Do a search on the factory oil pressure gauge. From what I remember someone had a pretty good explanation on how it works and it does seem to be "just an idiot light with a needle". Functions far differently than the rest of the factory gauges. Something about DC wanting to keep the gauge working "within peoples expectations" of what oil pressure should be!

Cheers

Dave

That is correct. I remember that post. All our gauges do the same thing. Low at idle, step on the pedal, and up she goes.

Creative gauge engineering has been going on a long time. The oil gauge bottoms out at 5 psi and that is also when you get the warning light. Everything else it shows you is DCs interpretation of what it thinks everyone wants and expects to see from an oil pressure gauge at various operating parameters. Wouldn't want to confuse the masses with an accurate reading. This is why its called an idiot light with a needle.
