I currently have a 2000 QC 2500lb it has a dtt trans, edge comp, 4"ex, bd brake piller guages etc 55,000mi on truck. I'm lookin for a change and took an 05 reg cab 4X4 610ftlb truck for a ride today. The ride was awesome, trans felt good but it felt like it had no power compared to waht i'm drivin now. I'm hoping someone will tell me I can get more power reasonably out of a new truck? any advice or should I just keep what I have..... this is not a gen 3 bash I just want to be sure i'll be happy if I buy one.

thanks, Rich

I'm so happy with my new purchase I'm going to leave it stock for now. I like the power right out of the box, even though it's not as much pep as the 2nd gen I had. The steering & ride is way better, but I think the seat in the 2nd gen was more comfortable. I know guys that are running mild boxes that are happy.

If Moma Ain't Happy

Glad that I made the switch. As the saying goes "If mama ain't happy, nobody's happy" My wife never did like the noise, comfort, or 5speed while I didn't like the 4:10's (too many rpm's at highway speed). The power increase between the stock 2nd and the 3rd generation was remarkable. In fact, I could reach speeds of 75mph (3050rpm with tow/haul engaged) while towing a 5,000lb trailer up a 6-7% grade. Millage while towing is the same while intown I lost 1-2mpg.

I thought my '05 wasn't as powerful as my '96 when I first got the '05. Now several thousand miles later, as it's loosening up, I now believe the '05 would leave it in the dust. They are a little sluggish when new but that goes away quick!

Sounds like you have a real nice truck already. If I were you, I'd hang on to what you got, especially if it's paid for. Truck payments suck. In fact, I have thought about trading mine for a 2nd gen at times.

 I agree with both makelemen and Coolslice. Have a new '05 and love it, but payments suck big time!! Mama would not agree to getting a 2nd gen because of the noise, so I had to pony up about 20000 extra bucks to get about what I could have been happy with. Unfortunately the dudes selling '04s wanted as much as the Dodge store with their "employee discount" program so I got new. :-laf Oh, what the heck, its only money.

I love my 05, The 95 was excellent, never was in the shop. The only things I did to it was new tires, brakes and I changed oil & filters every 5K. So far the 05 is nicer, roomier, I like the remote control towing mirrors. My wife likes the heated leather seats and quieter engine. I'm happy I did it, the price was great, I got a great price on the 95,(sold myself). The best part was the 50% income tax write off for 04. That was the last year for people who own a business.
