Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Have a question about my FASS

Today as I came into work the FASS kept running when I shut off the truck. I opened the hood and tapped the relay and all shut down.



Some of the FASS systems I have seen before did not have a relay in the wiring harness, well mine did as well as 2 others I have put on. Question is, am I going to start having problems with the relay?, do I trust it?, or can I bypass it and go with what the FASS use to come with?



OK, it's more than one question, but I have to wonder if the relay is to small for the FASS. If it is sticking on now, will it some day not click on the FASS, like in the winter when I really need it on and I have to do some wiring in -20 below temps... ... ... ugh I am not going to be happy.

New relay

Yes some of the earlier fass harness had no relay. I would replace with a higher quality relay like tyco. Had best luck with this brand. Hope this helps.

Anything would help at this point. I have only had the FASS on since July 10th... ... ... hmmmmmmmmm almost 2 weeks. I have already been looking into a better relay. Thanks.

Dunno what type relay FASS uses, but Radio Shack has some excellent ones with 20 amp contacts for about $5 - been using one on my pusher setup for 2 trouble-free years so far...

Just got a reply from Brad, says he want s to send me a new wiring harness, but with only 13 days of use on the one I have now still think it would better to change relays.

No problems here.

I think it is a Bosch relay. I already keep several in the truck since I use them for other circuits as well. I have not had a problem but its good piece of mind. I doubt a bigger relay is needed since many guys run the Fass direct through the ECM. I would not but some do. Relays are like anything else, maybe you just got a bad one. I would certainly recommend using automotive type relays as they handle the enviornment better than relays built for stationary use. With that said You can purchase relays up to say 50A realatively cheap on line. I use [/url]www.waytekwire.com

I wired mine direct when I installed my FASS setup, then got worried about it. Brad brought a new harness out to foothill ranch and gave it to me, installed that harness and no problems. Note: I had no problems with the other harness with no relay, so I keep it in the truck as a backup, along with a spare relay.

Mine is wired directly to ECM and has been for 6 months. Is the relay really needed? You guys now have me worried that it may be set up wrong.
