2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission have a shake/vibration felt in steering wheel

hey guys, While making a right corner or turn i have a vibration or knocking that is felt in the steering wheel, anybody have any ideas what is could be. had it for a while and hoped it would go away after all new ball joints and dt trackbar but it didn't.



Any suggestions

I would find a "good" front end shop and have them take a look at it.



Hint: A "good" front end shop is one that doesn't have minimum-wage, 3rd-world morons doing all the work. And it probably won't be found at any of the big tire shops either. Look for an alignment place which has been in the same location for many years, is used to working on trucks, maybe the original owner's son now runs the place after working with his Dad for 30 years or so...



I had similar symptoms on my 2-wd 2500. Steve Parish at Bee Line in Santa Monica fixed it right the first time. Anybody in So. Cal want his number it is listed in the phone book. Same number for the last 40 years or so.

sounds like a u-joint to me, did you do the joints when you did ball joints?

No dealer said they were fine. The ball joints were done under warranty. I asked that if the u joints were bad to have them replaced but they said they were fine. Is there a way i can see if i can test them?

yeah, you can test 'em, first start by seeing ig their is any play in the u-joints by hand... if yes well then problem solved. If not, try a small pry bar to see if there is any play. also, you could put the truck up on stands and turn the wheel by hand and see if you can hear exactly where the noise is coming from. Big Mike have not seen if it is the ball joints yet.



Could i be getting play in the steering shaft, to cause this, could it be in the steering linkageon the front of the truck?
