Here I am

Have all diesel engine improvements since 1997 been emissions related?

Great Racing Stories

Seems like all of the changes to diesel engines since 1997 have been not to improve the engine but to protect the environment?? I just get a kick out of how the manufactures package their advertising to make us think they are doing us a favor selling us a more expensive vehicle, that is more expensive because of all of the emission requirements. Am I wrong???

I think you hit it right on the head. The P7100 pump is the power pump. I don't know if the 24 valve head flows better or not in stock condition. Even if it does I wonder if the improvement actually results in more power. Maybe Joe Donnelly could comment on this one.

The only improvement in the CTD engine was the new cover to eliminate the KDP problem. Everything else is a smoke screen for emissions. What's worse is that many of the emission improvements were not an improvement new lift pump, VP44 and that just on the 24 valve.

Insofar as a stock truck is concerned, however, the reductions in emissions were also accompanied by increases in BHP and torque! For the "normal" non-TDR owner, I'd consider that an improvement! ;)
