check engine light came on sometime after a 100 MPH pass. The truck runs great, so I am not in a panic. I would like to retrieve the code(s) so I don't have to take it to the dealer. Are there any cheap scan tools for this? I have a snap on scan tool but I think it only goes to 1997. Any ideas? Thanks

Cycle the ignition on/off 3 times without starting. Leave it keyed on after the 3rd time and you should be able to read the codes on the odometer. You can post the codes here if you don't have a service manual or check them at this link.....

Hope I helped !

thanks, just did so and got a p1693 code, looked it up in the big book and I know exactly the same as I did driving wondering what the heck it was. This code tells ME nothing! Any other ideas??

I'm good for a P1693 code at least every 4 months. Last fall, I had a companion code which indicated low voltage at the map, 0237 I believe, it's been a while. Dilectric grease on the MAP plugs ( ez and OEM) seemed to help, but I still get the same code every once in awhile with no notice in performance.

Dis-connect your batteries for an hour or so. The code will be gone. I to had the P1693 code. I did the battery dis-con. and never saw it again. Chris

well thats the first goods news I have heard. Guess I will disconnect the battery's for a while to take care of that. In my experiance with Ford products, most mil events are not worth the electricity that light the bulb!
