I have an '85 Crewcab W350 currently gas powered w/ a 4 speed. The transfer case is a NP205 married to the 4 speed. Diffs are Dana 60 F&R, 4. 10 ratio. I have the opportunity to purchase a complete 1994 3/4 ton 2wd, 5. 9 Cummins and Auto. I do not know all the details of this truck yet, other than it is the first gen body style. I thought that the body style changed in 1994, along w/ the motor being fueled by the P7100 pump. First question; Does anyone know if Dodge put a P7100 pumped motor in a first gen body? Second question; Will I be able to mate this 2wd transmission to my existing NP205 transfer case? This truck is a ways from me, so I would like to know what I'm getting into before I go to look at/try to buy, etc. Thanks to all from a newbie.

Kyle, thanks for the info. That is a nice looking truck. As for the Gertrag/NV4500, I would really prefer to keep the Automatic. Drove sticks for years, and what with the bum knees and such, just reeeeaaly don't much care for them anymore. So, what would you suggest?

Use the Automatic that your donor truck came with, have it converted to 4X4 & rebuild it and update the torque converter. I would make a new post asking for ideas on Automatics and what to update. You will need to change gear ratios to 3:54 or 3:07 depending if you have overdrive or not. Wish I could be of help but I never liked how a diesel handles a automatic, But installing an auto will be much easer(you won't have to rework your fire wall for the clutch's master cyc. #ad

James,
Converting the auto trans to 4x4 is a matter of swapping overdrive units on the trans. With the trans out it should take a good trans guy about an hour to do. If the trans has high milage would recommend rebuild before installation as you will only want to horse this trans around once. See my post "47rh installation in the first gen" for recommendations on controlling lockup and overdrive.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to TDR,
As for a 1st gen 1994, thats news to me. If you are interested in doing the"conversion", it is mostly bolt on, but you need to have a good mechanial background and a good set of tools. I have already done the Cummins conversion and the first thing I would recommend is scrap the automatic or Getrag 5 speed that came with the 1st gens & get a NV4500. There are two resons for this, 1st It will cost almost as much to convert a Getrag from 4X2 to 4X4 as the price of a NEW NV4500 5 speed. 2nd, From what I have heard from the guys at TDR, the NV4500 is much quiter and a better transmission all around and you have much better control of your truck with a stick. Next your NP205 Transfer case will accept the Cummins BUT it will need some upgrading at a cost of around $700(I have the part numbers if you need them). Without question, adding the Cummins to my Crew Cab was some of the best money I have have ever spent. You can't beat the power, mileage and the fun of blowing off Power Smokes and screwing with people's minds. If I can be of help just ask, there are a bunch of us who have "already been there" and cansave you alot of time, money and grief.

Kyle

crewcabdiesel, did I see you parked on the side of the road on I-65 around Huntsvill/Decatur Alabama, last friday? The truck looked like yours, couldnt tell if it had a cummins, but it was a 4 dr white pulling an enclosed white trailer, it was gone when I came back down the road.
