... just about anything buried in the snow. I hope they don't plow the road, I'm having too much fun. Snagged a Jeep today. It was buried half way up the hood. Dragged it 100ft or so before he realized he had to turn the wheel to get out of the ditch and back on the road. After he was out I noticed that I left the parking brake on. #ad

RK,leaving the parking brake on is an old trick on slick or loose surfaces,it tricks the differential into locking the spinning wheel,but you don't usually apply the brake all the way. That may have been the reason you were able to pull that jeep out so easily.

Another trick for slick surfaces, that isn't very popular around here any more, is chains
on all 4 wheels(if its a 4X4). They are a pain to keep, repair, put on & take off, but if you really have to go and speed is not an
issue, there is just no substitute. I have a 49 W300 Power Wagon with about 34k on it that I used to chain up & feed cows with. It has 9. 00x16's on it, & chained up it will walk through light snow up to my chest and any ice conditions that I've encountered. The only down side is that if you stick it,
you've got a serious shoveling problem. I remember some awsome performances put on by some locals with jerk straps, hopped up well used, chained up 4x4's; pulling stuck semi's up to the top on I 90 on Lookout and Snonomish Passes. You wouldn't think a pickup would pull an extra 80K up to the top,but they sure do.
 
I know what you mean about the spinning wheel, I've needed that trick before, but I just plain forgot to release it. And I always set it hard, cause I want the truck to be where I left it when I get back in. #ad

Mel, I know chains are great,but a PITA. I have a fork lift that will get stuck in 1/2 inch of dust in the summer,I put chains on it in the winter with a 9' snow plow that slips over the forks and there's no stopping it.

I was checking out the stuck semi pusher they use on Snoqualmie Pass,a big Cat wheel loader with chains all the way around. Instead of a bucket it had a two foot thick rubber bumper on the front,I'll bet it could push a tractor/trailer over the pass with the brakes locked up.

Most only towing I do is with my good ole strap. Every time we get a good snow, my wife knows somebody will call. Best one yet was the FORD salesman who lives nearby, I know it just killed him to call me.

As to chains, I keep a set of those single strand chains in the bed. Last year while learning the limits of my RAM, I had to strap them on so as to dig myself out a few times. Great for self-extraction and ease of installation, but no good for extended driving since there is only one chain (like a bracelet) per tire.
