Mine did that, but doesen anymore... .

Disconnect the batteries positive connections... . wait an hour..... and reconnect, drive it..... for the first drive, be normal on the throttle... not light..... seems to have cured mine... .

Others say to do the above + turn key on (dont start)... . and slowly push the gas pedal to the floor and slowly release the turn the key off..... this didnt work for me, but the above did... . absolutely doesnt do the 1-2-1-2-1-2-3-4... . good luck

I'll give this a try. I heard other talk about this so I assumed I had to live with it. I'll report back on the outcome. Thanks.

"no shifting problems on my 06 for almost 5k now... ... i have shifted it manually as well as let the auto do the work..... "

Yeah, mine didnt do it either for 15k..... then something happened (someone left the cab light on? and the battery saver came on? Dealer disconnected batteries for service?)... . something... . not a big deal to fix... . guaranteed, everyone will see it at some point... ... as the apps get reset everytime the batteries are disconnected... .

Actually you ought to be able to unhook batterys, turn key to on,wait 30 seconds and turn key off and hook them back up. The 1 hour dosen't to thing for it.

The trans in my '06 has been fine for 12k miles. The one in my '05 I put 30k on with no problems and my '03 dually has 99k hard working miles on it with no trans issues. The auto is pretty solid. The convertor is sloppy but I actually prefer the 48re shift characteristics to the two allisons I owned.

Be prepared for a serious milage penalty on a new truck though. The 305/555 version of the engine behind a six speed is the ultimate milage combo. Expect to go from low 20's on the highway to 17. In town the new truck will be more like 14-15 mpg. That is my only complaint with the "600" versions.

Can anyone tell me how the Auto is with light-moderate towing loads and 3. 73 gears, especially at the "limbo" speeds where it could tend to hunt between 3rd & OD? According to the gear calculator there's quite a drop in RPM shifting from 3rd to OD, but I know the TC unlocking can act like an "intermediate" gear and not drop RPM as dramatically. I know if you run in 3rd (direct) and want to motor along the upper 60s the motor is spinning over pretty fast.

I tow 4K and 6K mountains and flats with 3. 73's, I will say the shift strategy and tow/haul vs just the od off is noticeably much better on my 05 than the 03 I had.

I don't think you will have any problems at those "loads". I like to keep up with traffic and found towing into the mountains with OD off the truck felt real comfortable running 70mph towing 12K. I have tried the t/h mode but so far haven't found it too useful at cruising speed. I guess nursing my 47re to 190K I got too much in the habit of shifting for myself. I think a manual mode like the 06 Allison would be nice for my style of driving. With all the retro craze maybe Dodge will bring back the old push button transmission shifter with a new 5 or 6 speed automatic one day.

Am really considering an 06 with 0%. I have an 03 QC SB 4X4 with the 6speed.

I really want a long bed and would like to give the auto a shot. Do the 06 48REs have both the tow/haul and the overdrive lockout? Do they shift better than in the past. Longevity?

Thanks,

Subby

A friend has an 03 HO 48re that he has used to tow his 14K fiver for over 12K miles. It has been a great truck. He loves the 48re, but wishes it could handle an exhaust brake like the 06. I think you will love the 06. The only disappointment in the 06 so far is loaded fuel mileage and I expect that will improve with miles. As bad as it is, it is still about 15% better than than the mileage the boss is getting with his 06 D/A LBZ pulling the same or less load. It doesn't seem to matter what load the LBZ is pulling, it will only get about 9. 4mpg with any load. The LBZ has 13k on it so it should be loosened up by now.

I know this is old now, but I finally did the throttle position sensor reset by turning the key on and slowly depressing the accelerator pedal to the floor. I read another post on this and someone said you need to do it three times, so I did and it worked! I really didn't think it was going to do anything, but it did. Who knows how it got out of whack in the first place.

So did you cycle the key each time or turn it on once and cycle the pedal 3 times?

I turned the key to on, waited for all the lights to complete their cycle and then slowly depressed the pedal to the floor, released completely and turned the key off. Repeated two more times. This is no subtle difference, it's huge. Another thing is the OD lock up is much smoother, it used to shudder the truck sometimes.

Our '05 does the 1-2-1-2-1-2 deal with VERY LIGHT throttle. However, our truck is at 32,000 miles and has had no issues, and we pull a trailer that weighs 17,000 Lbs empty, or, like today, we had the trailer loaded at 23,225Lbs. That grosses us at 23,225, plus the truck which is a 4-door dually auto 4wd with 3. 73 gears (Nearly 30,000Lbs gross) No issues yet.

You have to be carefull though, if you have to maintain 38-42MPH the trans will stay in 2nd or 3rd gear unlocked, and the trans will heat up really quick.
