2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission How much for my truck?

i have, ... chipping is due to type of paint, prep, and how much paint was applied, etc. , not changing colors. The worst part of changing colors is getting all the paint changed. On our trucks if u want it to look right u'll have to paint ouside, doors jams, under the hood, and inbetween the bed and truck.

i really wanted to add the silver stripe in the middle like some of the older rams have... . to do it correctly would have cost me over $4000!!!

oh well guess that custom patriot blue color is just fine for me...

$4000 is crazy! and i meen crazy. Take it a to a custom pin striper and that would be the nicest or a paint shop and they should be able to do it for under a $1000

nope was at the best body shop around and to do the job RIGHT

like removing ALL the trim and properly featherin the paint..... it was cost prohibitive... ...

i have seen the jobs that are advertised on TV for like $229... . believe me you GET what you pay for... ... ...

Changing paint colors, regardless of how well it's done, will drop the trade-in value of your vehicle drastically, so if there's the slightest possibility it'll be sold or traded, I wouldn't change colors. I've seen it happen too many times to others, to want to try it myself. On the other hand, if you're 100% sure you're keeping it, why not?

cost

$4000 is crazy!!! The most it should be is half that. That should include trim removal, surface prep, masking, painting the center color, clearcoating everything to seal the paint edge, sand and buff clear, reinstall trim, and clean up everything plus the cost of material and paint. I could only see $4k if your current paint is peeling, damaged, dirty, has acid rain damage or there are other factors like you just waxed or ArmourAll-ed everything, or want an additional stripe down the center top of truck. OR the shop is too busy making money off of other more lucrative projects to bother with yours. Many shops will double or triple the price just to avoid too many projects, train wrecks waiting to happen, or customers that are a known PITA to deal with.

well i did check with the wife and i blew what the estimate was... . she says it was closer to $2500... ... .

$4K is accurate for a show paint job on a Vette or street rod. My truck has 170k miles, is a 94, and reasle value isn't a consideration. It's a red truck with a silver bed, so color change is not negotiable. The REAL question should be, WHAT COLOR AM I GOING TO PAINT IT????

oh well that's easy... ... . use that fancy custom patriot blue color... .

rumor is you'll be the only one around with that color... ... ...

YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While $4K is a bit much for a stripe, it definitely won't get you a show-quality paint job. Some of those street rods you see spend upwards of $20K just on paint. If you are planning on changing the color of your truck, plan on $6K minimum for any kind of a decent job, mostly because of the labor involved in door jambs, underhood, and removing the bed of the truck to paint in between. I used to work at a body shop, and I think the cheapest paint job we ever rolled out of there was in the neighborhood of $1000, and that was only because it was a Dodge Omni that was covered under insurance.

I did all the prep work for the paint shop. Also lended a hand in masking off the areas also.

My buddy works there so there really was no cost involved, I just returned the favor to him with some work around his house :D

BTW, this whole thing started because my dually fenders were turning yellow and the dealer wanted to hear nothing about it. So it grew from just repainting the fenders to adding the gold lower color.

I am hoping by spring to have something totally different done to the truck. Yup, removing the gold color and graphics that I have now for something WAY COOL!!!! ;)
