Are the governor springs the same for a 911 and a 913? I just took off a 911, put the springs from that into a 913, and put the 913 on my truck. The dang thing won't idle in gear very well at all. The idle is set to about 950 in neutral, and when it is in gear it drops to about 600 and dies when the ac clutch comes on. The governor worked perfectly in the old pump. When I took the springs out of the 911 I noticed that they were just barely tightened... maybe about one click is all. I have tried every setting from just one click to about 5 or 6 and it still won't idle worth a crud. What do I do? TIA!

Chris :(

Chris I have to ask if the idle spring is in there, big fat one that barely fits in the hole... ... ... your probably saying yea I know what it is!

ha ha... :D Yes, I actually put all of the springs back in.

just put a 3k gsk in a 175 hp 94 ctd and a 97 215 hp ctd and there were 3 springs in the 175 and 4 springs in the 215, i've done a 180 as well and the pump had 4 springs. I think the 215 pump had diferent springs and seats in it. ... ... ..... reb

if u put the stock springs in, i suggest putting the shims and seats with the springs, if they are 3k or 4k sprink kits, ... . they are all the same. U might have the retainer nut too tight or too loose, ... should be about 3 to 6 quarter clicks past flush. Hope this helps a little, ... ... . reb

I think it is a 4k spring kit, not sure though. I took it out of the 180 pump that was on my truck (worked fine there) and put them into the 215 pump. The idle is at 950 rpm and it barely stays running in gear with the ac on. I played with it a whole bunch today and it is still no good. I backed the nuts off all the way then tightened them one click, then I started and checked it, and tightened them one more click, started it again... . I kept going until they were both 8 clicks in and no luck. Then I backed them off all the way again and tried tightening one side one click at a time, start it and check, tighten the other side, start it and check, tighten the first side, start it and check... . This has gotten really frustrating. :( They just don't work.

does the engine run fine when driving down the road? Could the timing be off? Put the nut 5 quarter clicks in past flush in both sides. set the idles at 800- 850 with a/c on and truck in drive with parking brake on. Is the shut off solenoid stuck all the way in? Timing?, sucking air? loose line, ... did u bleed lines? junk in the line or dv or injector? a lot of questions to answer, hope the brainstorming helps a little, ..... reb

Sounds like a 3K gov kit at 3 per side. If this is the same 180 pump you had last summer when you were at Piers, I think that is what he installed. I had a 3K kit installed at the same time.

May want to call him and ask about the seats. I seemed to recall a thread once that said the seats were different for a manual transmission and the auto transmission. For the top you use the same factory seats. For the bottom one you use Piers special design that comes in the kit. And its different for autos and manuals. -- Only a guess. But I thought I read that here.

Chris, If it helps you on my upgrade from 3k to 4k all I did was install a stiff and slightly longer little spring for the intermost one, that gave me 3 per post not counting the idle spring, Piers or Al could answer that question.

Jim

Jim's correct in that the 4K kit comes with 3 per side, 4 including the idle spring. The 3K kit is 2 per side, 3 including the idle springs. -- When you install the kits you remove all the factory springs except the idle spring. Then you install all of the springs in the kit. Giving you a total 3 per for a 3K kit and 4 per with a 4K kit.

The short answer to CC's question is YES. The next set of questions are

- Are these the factory springs or the springs from a Gov Kit? Seems the factory springs are different, but the ones from a gov kit would be the same, assuming the idle springs are the same in a 913 versus 911 pump.

- Are the idle springs the same in a 913 versus 911 pump?

- Are the seats the same? From the factory? For a gov kit? - I suspect this for sure.

- Are the seats installed properly? Is this important or even true? The factory seats on top and the Piersified seats on the bottom? ( assuming these are from a gov kit )

I talked to Al at pdr, and he was quite helpful. He said that the outer springs are never to be changed because they controll the idle quality. They are set on a bench for each pump and just because they worked in the old pump it doesn't mean they will work in the new one. The pump needs to be put on a test bench to get this problem fixed. :{ Oh well. Thanks for all your input. :)

 I ain't never tinkered with the gov springs before.

After the [very censored] mods I did this evening, I have more than enough power to smoke my dtt tcc though. :D

Have you seen pics of the Mitchell’s truck smoke? :D Still like that AFTER BOOST KICKS IN!?!?!!!!!!!? :D

NO ONE behind me can see where they are going when I am at wot. Poor buggers…. :D Oo. :D Oo. :D

My poor tires never had a chance... . :(
