Having problems getting SMARTY software installed

What is the proper way to get these new programs from the computer into my smarty??? I am at wits end and nothing is working. . help me out!!

Need to download the 7zip program, the usb driver and the usb downloader. After you download and intall the program and drivers, right click on the desktop and select new folder. Rename this folder Smarty Files, this is where your going to download the program. Newt thing plug Smary into the computer, a new hardware found balloon should pop up. When it asks you for the driver s/w (XP, Vista self installs) point it to where the s/w is located, usually the desktop. Once the driver is installed, open the Smarty downloader, icon should look like a Smarty programmer in blue. Next download the Smarty file into the Smarty files folder. When it's done, right click on it and select 7zip and extract files here. In the Smarty downloader, click open and locate the file, click send. Should say erasing memory, 30 min to complete upgrade.
