HD Idler Pulley

Can anyone tell me where I can find a Heavy Duty Idler Pulley. I'm getting ready to change to a gator back belt and would like to install a HD idler.

You will also need a 3/8" braker bar

13mm 6 point shallow socket

#50 Torx socket.



Just but mine on yesterday!



I found the trick to get the belt back on was do run the belt around everything except the alt. Swing the adjuster and pull the belt over the alt. Make sure the belt is in the correct grove on each pully and your done!

Peace Of mind aside.....



I gained 50 H. P at the wheels... and my MPG went up 45%... .

















(Hey... if they can sell a piece of sheet Metal that "Swirls" the air... and make that claim..... Then why not say it for something that actually has VALUE????)

I look at it this way. when the old one starts to go bad, the belt will jump one or more groves on the pully and turn into trash.



Now I can picture being 300 miles from home with the camper, wife and kid in the truck (the kid saying "are we there yet?) Its 100 deg and raining, I am on a 6 lane highway (with no sholder)and the pully goes bad. Keep in mine the belt also turns your water pump, belt brakes, your walking.



So I have to find a dealer on saturday or sunday, then drop $180. 00 (I think I heard it cost that much from someone here) IF THEY EVEN HAVE IT IN STOCK (they would probably then have to call STAR first to see if there even allowed to sell me one!) then messing around trying to mount it.



Or buy one now and put it on when I feel like it.

I am a little lost, how and why does a heavy duty idler pulley make a difference? are they easy to install? expensive?

My idler wore out. The pulley and bearings were fine but the plastic bushing that the tensioner pivots on was worn and allowing the pulley to move towards the front. What would happen next is the belt would contact the AC compressor (as I recall, read it in an old issue) and frey the edge of the belt. Mine was about 1/32" away from contact. Part was $65 or $85. It is a dayco part, I could dig up the number if anyone is interested.

I just called the dealer to see what the stock one really costs. "$128. 00, and they could have it Wed afternoon. "



The HD one is Cheaper, I noticed it is also wider, it has bearings that can be replaced in the future if needed, plus it is made of metal, not plastic like the stock one.
