Replacing ST tires with Dura Grapplers?

Big
There is a rally for HDT rv'ers in Kansas in October. http://hdtrally.com/index.html click on the buttons on the top of the screen for more info. I think they had around 50 trucks last year. Anybody who is thinking of going this route is welcome to attend and check them out. Several people will even let you and the wife drive their units. A couple of the high end 5th wheel manufacturers will have units on display as well.

Nigel

Nigel thanks for the info we have seen a few GIANT 5th wheels the Forks RV is one that I had to chase down the guy driving it, I told him im sorry and that he must have thought that I was some tanked up red-neck? NOPE we get questions all the time he said, he and his wife took on the tour of the trailer it was the Continental Elegance he said that the price is unavailable it has a starting price and goes from there, so many options that it would take to much to list them all most are more or less special order. The wife said if we are going to do something like this RV this would be a STRONG contender for what she want's At 43' its a big SOB http://www.forksrv.com/continental/te3.php

Did they tell you basically a toilet and a bed to make it a motorhome? That's what I could gather here in MT when I checked a few years ago.

This is just about what was said, I was told that ANY officer of ANY branch of law enforcement could make the qualifying inspection to make sure what was needed was in it. Stopped at the scale on Hwy 200 and 83 they wanted to sign it off right then and there without seeing it and I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ONE :-laf so it would be my belief that its not a real tuff inspection. Just like most things in MT when the rest of the country tries something MT will look at it for the next 20 years and act on it in another 10 years.

Commercial trucks registered in Ca are required to retrofit, there goes the competition, there goes the prices. But POV's don't as of yet, if not a fleet. Rumors have it, Ca is building an inspection station capable checking smog without pulling to the inspection station on the south bound I 15 just after State Line before Baker grade.
Steve It's My understanding they are Moving the check Point closer to Border to keep some of the Garbage from coming into Calif so far .Such as fire wood that is not Allow'd in Ca. and the Many other thing's they they have to send a crew out to go pick up. I have Several friend's that work for Caltrans and that's how I got this info .

Please don't take this as an attack on you or your opinion, I had lived in Calif for the better part of my life moved there when I was 10 years old because my Dad was in the Military and that is where he was transferred to. I went to the Military as Calif as my home of record, I came back and lived there raising a family for the next 34+ years made more money than anywhere else as truck driver with a 12 grade education could have. Had a good life there even thou I didn't agree with the thoughts of most people that lived in the same state.

But I have to say that with all honesty that if a Cal Trans ANYTHING!!! said ANYTHING!! it was without a doubt A CROCK OF **** and that is the God's honest truth, how can anyone POSSIBLY believe ANYTHING that some group of stooges say when there are 10 men standing over a hole watching 1 man do the digging and getting paid more individually than the total sum of them TOGETHER!!! are worth. The one doing the digging was a contractor!!!

As I always told them to twist their Nuts, I heard that 12,000 Caltrans workers are going to be laid off next year, the Japanese have invented a shovel that can lean by its self, they would be P***ed beyond belief, and that's when I told them that THEY had nothing to worry about because its going to be hard to find 12,000 Caltrans employees THAT WORK!!!

Hey Big it's all good:) The only reason I believe him is 1 he is a Close friend and Has no reason to blow smoke up my rearend and he's been around Caltrans long enough that he know's what he's talking about Yeah I use to tease them also about the shovel thing .But he sat down and explained why their are so many Cal trans worker's on 1 spot . Main reason is 5 guy's are working the other 10 are trying to watch there Back for all the Idiot's that Don't know How to Slow there Arse down when they see Construction . If you look at the Number of Cal Trans worker's A year that are Killed you would do the Same if your Family was out there .

Well I feel not one bit of sympathy for them, it may sound hard and callous but they know what they are getting into when the take they job. Just like a truck driver that hauls gas I knew what could happen and seen it happen many times before and after taking the job. Bottom line on that part of it is, if you don't like the risk vs the return DON'T DO THE JOB.

The part that bothered me was that they and other state employees are a contributing factor (retirement and wages) for Calif going down the S***er. Also like to address the misuse of STATE equipment, that MY tax dollar paid for, how many of them have been caught taking the trucks home and get caught using it as a personal auto at the peoples cost. This and MANY MANY MANY other forms of abuse is the main reason for my anger. Caltrans and other State employees have always been known for working retirement.

See what you come up with when you run this VIN# 303306

Supposed to be a 1991 379 Pete

36 in Sleeper; C12 Caterpillar Engine 350 hp; Diesel; 728,241 mi; 13 Spd; Engine Brake; Air Ride Suspension; 24.5 lp Tires; Aluminum Wheels; Single Axle

Not Exactly what I wanted for a sleeper but a buddy that took a look at it said it might be worth a flight to come see it. He drove it runs great he knows me and said that for what I want and my driving style a gear change could be in order (like that's a big deal) had paperwork on a fresh in-frame 5K before it went up for sale. Super Clean inside and out.

I took a look back at our PM and you said that 1992 was the year that Cat went to computer ran motors? So this could be the one, even if I have to change out the motor after it gets registered, who would be any the wiser??? ;)

Don't know that much about the C12 motor

Thanks BIG
