Don't take this the wrong way. But I have one of those $3K run ragged CTD's! I would rather buy one for 3K and put another 4K in it making it RIGHT, than spend 7K and still have to do ALOT of the same maintenace type items. John

I'm just the opposite. I'd rather spend more and have something I don't have to work on that much. I just don't have tha patience anymore to deal with constant repairs or working on vehicles in general.



Of course, I say that as I'm in the middle of my weekend project: gearing and building new axles for my Jeep. I haven't even started setting up the new gears and my patience is already spent.....

I paid $ 14,500. 00 for my truck in 1997 with 61000 miles on it . I have put a lot of money in it on mostly performance up grades . I have 130000 miles on it now and there are people all the time where ever I go that ask me if I want to sell it . There has been a few that have said they would give me my 14,5 back . There is a one guy in town that tells me every time he see's me "hey you ready to sell me that truck yet , I will give you back your 14,5 ". I just keep telling them all its not for sell and that I would'nt trade even for a brand new truck .

A guy I know has a 93w 250 LE auto and he just bought another 1st gen. Its a 93 350 LE 5 sp truck with 40,000 miles. He bought it down in Washington State for $16,000us and wasn't even allowed to test drive the truck. When he brought it to the shop on a trailer just after buying it to show me, I asked him so did you atleast get to drive it on the trailer? He said NO! The guy that sold it was so anal he wouldn't hear of someone driving his baby in his sight.

I must say, this truck is loaded and is in the best shape of any 1st gen I have seen.



A 1st gen auto truck was $1000 more than a std truck when I bought my truck new in 93.



Bob, Harry and I can tell you we have been offered more than $20,000 cdn for our trucks and we all have past on the offers so far.

I watched the local paper and other listings in central California and couldn't believe what the asking prices were. I remember a truck which was very close to what I wanted (4x4, 5speed, club cab, 3. 54's) at a used car lot in Sacramento, it was an auto trans but otherwise exactly what I was hunting for. The ask was $10,000 with 350,000 miles on it! I found other trucks that looked fairly beat on for $7. 500 so when I found the truck I actually ended up with in Colorado Springs (advertised right here on the TDR) for $7,800 I bought one way tickets from Fresno to Colorado Springs for me and my son and we drove it home. It flipped 100,000 on the way back somewhere near Grand Junction. I was very pleased with my truck and I would probably have spent a little more on it.

This condition sounds very similar to my truck when I bought it last year. It's a '92 W350 Club Cab dually with auto, and it had 138k miles. He was asking $10k, and I got it for $8k. I had to travel from Wisconsin to North Dakota to get it, but I just couldn't find a 1st Gen around here that wasn't a rust bucket. This truck is rust free from top to bottom with newer tires.



IMHO, $10,500 is a lot of money, but as these 1st Gen trucks become more scarce due to accidents, rust, and just generally wearing out, their asking prices will continue to climb. In 2008, after 5 more years of inflation, $10k for that truck will be a bargain (with new ones probably selling for $60k).

I paid $12K 2 years ago for my 93 D350 (guy was asking $15K). I found it after 2 years searching locally and feel like I did pretty well. Most I saw at the time were asking $15 to $17K here in CT.



I must admit that if I searched nationwide I probably could have purchased for a lot less somewhere. Just didn't know then.



I love this truck. Going to CTD was the best thing I ever did. I get lots of lookovers and compliments too and many friends are rethinking their gassers. I smile inside everytime I start it up. It snaps to life like it is saying 'I was ready before you turned the key Oo. '. Anyone nearby notices this too.

After mine got wrecked, Dad called me and said he stopped and looked at a cherry '92/93 D250 extended cab, auto, with all the bells and whistles, >100K miles, original owner, located in Kerrville TX. Asking price was $12500. It sold in less than a week.

This is semi related I guess, at work this past week someone had the Fresno Bee so I grabbed the classified section and checked to see if there were any 1st gen trucks for sale... . there were not, but there WAS a wanted add which read; "Wanted, '90 to '93 Dodge diesel pickup, 4x4, 5speed trans. " The fact that prices seem high is just evidence of higher demand.

Back to what Banzitoyota said about the 3k trucks. I have seen several and I was willing to pay more and get a better truck. 3 or 4k sounds like a lot till you start costing our paint, rearends and Getrags. Even if you do all your own labor It gets expensive quick. I wanted a clean 1st gen with medium miles that hadn't been modified and I was willing to pay for it. (Mine even still had all the seal caps on the pump ) I looked for almost a year before I found what I wanted. Now yes I paid more than I thought it was worth but after looking that long and seeing what was out there I think I did well. Now 3k truck may be great for a beater but I wanted somthing clean that looked good and would last me a long time without a lot of work. .
