I have searched and read a few threads about how to do the swap. What I want to know is it worth it or not? I currently have an 04 305/555 6 speed 4x4 that I plan on keeping for a long time. I have a chance to buy a HE351CW and may add a Smarty Jr. at a later date but for now I am staying stock. Let me know please and thanks for your help.

Some on this forum will say this is a worthwhile upgrade. I haven't done it so I can't comment on it. I installed the Super B on my signature truck along with their manifold. This is the way the truck should have been built in the first place. The only downside is that I had to shorten the engine pipe about 2" to make room for BD's adapter. I also lowered the WG opening pressure from 45 to 28 PSI.

BD now makes a "Killer B" which is a direct bolt on, without the adapter. They claim it's a little too big for stock fueling on the 305 engine. It may be just the ticket for what you want to do. One thing I will say, when you call them, you'll be talking to a real person in about 15 seconds.

This is one of the best mods I've done, it also comes with a fuel economy benefit due to its lower drive pressure. Let me know if you want pictures.

I did the swap, I just changed the turbo, I retained the 03 cast elbow and 3. 5" downpipe.

The egt's were slightly lower, I really could not tell any performance advantage, but never dynoed it. Maybe if I would have changed the elbow and downpipe, it may have helped, I am not convinced. The reason I say I am not convinced, I went through 2 other turbos with the 03 elbow/downpipe, an SPS62 & Silver62.

When the Silver62 wasn't living up to it's hype, I was urged to go with the 05 elbow and a 4" downpipe. Well once again egt's may have been reduced slightly, but turbo lag increased to the point it was impossible to tow my 5vr. You either shifted down to keep rpm's up, or topped hills at 90mph trying to keep the turbo lit.

Your probably getting the HE351cw for about $250. /300. which is a good deal, but for your effort, I would do the BD SuperB/KillerB, or a 62/65/12(13)(14), they will all spool very well and flow much better than the HE351cw, However the cost is 5 times more :(

JJPage is right, if you're going to do all that work, you might as well get the benefit. You won't be disappointed with a BD product. Use the Killer if it will work for your fueling. You'll save untold time trying to mess with the exhaust system, and the compressor housing already has the cast elbow like the stocker.

From the spec's I have found on the HE341 and HE351 you get about 200 CFM more with the 351. The super B is only a few CFM more than the 351 (the same based on some figured from BD and Holset). So it is a worthwhile upgrade, espeicailly for the money.

The reason the Super B Single is a much better turbo than the HE351 is the turbine side of the HE351 is a small and restrictive, especially for the rating of the comp wheel. The comp wheel is actually a very nice wheel with a beautiful map, its the exhaust one that sucks!

So in short, for the cash its a good change. You can safely run a bit more boost and the turbine is still bigger on the 351 than the 341. I would get one, put a boost elbow in the pulg for the command valve and set the WG to about 32-33 psi and let her rip!

You will need a boost fooler thou.

I have the Smarty JR and 351. They work well together in my opinion. I have my wastegate set to 35psi. My egts are cool even on perf. I added an ATS ex manifold and full 4" exhaust at the same time. The added 200cfm helps with the JR's added fueling. If you get a JR you don't need a boost fooler. Check out the 341 to 351 swap at dieseltruckresource and all the info you need is there or pm me with your phone # and I can call with my advice on the swap. I bought the elbow and turbo for $325 + shipping and sold my 341 for $250. Inexpensive swap for enough air for more hp than the 341. Fuel economy never went down and spoolup is very close to the 341.

I' yankin my 351 off this week for an upgrade. Let me know if you're interested. No problems with it just wanted more power.
