Got home to day, walked around the front of my truck and smelled coolant. Pressurized the radiator and found coolant coming from in between rocker cover 4 & 5. I took the rocker covers off and found a headbolt had broken off. The question is do i replace the head gasket and the bolts or do i just replace the one bolt? What would parts only run me? :(

If IT Was Me I Would Do It All Studs Are About 450 From Haisley And A Gasket Is About 60$ From Cummins AND ITS ABOUT A 5 HOUR JOB WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS

Thanks for the help. $450 is to expensive for me right now. Do you know how much stock bolts are from cummins. Is it possible to get by just changing the bolts?

I payed 240 over here in iceland for a set of bolts. Had to do it twice before I went to studs. I wouldn't mess around with it. I would pull it and swap in a new gasket. Its kinda hard for me to explain, but when you get it off you will see that the HG material will be tore up. The coolant works into the layers of the gasket and pops out where ever is convienient. I would hate for it to get into your oil durring a road trip or something like that. Thats what the 3 I popped looked like anyways. Two out the side of the block and one into the oil. If its not at least you have the peace of mind knowing there is nothing wrong with it. jmo though

Thanks for the offer Billwj. Just bought the headbolts today. I just hope this works for a little while. Is it really nessesary to have studs with a stock engine? 21 psi of boost is all ive been able to achive. One more thing ,whats the torque on the bolts?

no its not nessesary with that amount of boost. im not sure on the torque but i think its right around 90 pounds and then a 90 degrees more and they have to be tighted from the inside out
