Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Head Gasket and Studs?

Hi all,



I had my head gasket let loose yesterday and was looking at getting a upper end gasket kit from Cummins and ARP studs and one question can you still get the head in with the studs mounted in the block or do you need to install the studs after the head as it seems like it might be a little close.



is there any other things I should be doing while doing this, the truck has injectors so not sure what else I should be doing while I have it tore down this far?

Studs have to be installed with the head on the engine.

Would not want to even try to slip a head over the studs while still in the vehicle even if there was clearance.

Have fun on the re-troqueing procedure. Going to become proficient at valve adjustment.
