If the search feature worked more reliably you could find good instructions right here on TDR, I just used info from here when doing head gaskets.

Some main things to keep in mind:

Rent a cherry picker, a complete 24V head weighs 176 lbs.
Thoroughly clean all the head bolt holes out with q-tips & solvent, compressed air, etc.
Thoroughly clean block deck finishing up with razor blades
Keep valve train components in order so they go back in their same spots
When reinstalling the push rods be certain they drop into their lifter sockets, they're easy to "miss"
Check the head for warpage, 12V heads always warp enough to need resurfacing, 24V heads are not as warp prone
If you have the head machined to true it up be sure to have a fine finish put on it
Pull the injectors before lifting the head
Sometimes folks reuse head bolts but I would get new ones

Basically the process involves:
Disconnecting batteries
Draining at least half of radiator
Removing intake piping
Remove throttle sensor (APPS)
Disconnecting fuel injection lines. . . take them off as a bundle, don't separate them
Remove valve cover
Remove injectors
Disconnect fuel lines at fuel filter unit, remove filter unit
Disconnect intake air temp sensor and MAP sensor wire
Remove rocker pedestals, push rods
Loosen head bolts in reverse order of torque sequence
Lift head off

Clean, prep, replace gasket, reassemble in reverse order.

That's most of it, anyone else have suggestions for SAndreasen or anything I missed?

So I got the new gasket (kit) 269 bucks just for the gasket but I guess that's a head gasket kit according to somebody Part number 5015791Ac does that sound right or did I get screwed? Also where do I get a new valve cover gasket for cheaper than 120 bucks

I'd have gone through NAPA, Carquest, Autozone... . all the usual auto parts shops for a Felpro gasket. Should be able to get the valve cover through them as well.

Don't overlook Cummins, they will be cheaper than Dodge any day. Also Geno's keeps many Cummins parts on hand if you are not close to a Cummins dealer or distributor.

Cummins parts will be the latest and greatest design.

Mike.

Well its a Cummins gasket with a Mopar sticker any way I thought I would replace the valve cover gasket because it looks like a pita to change also going to replace all injector orings while I'm inside

Save your money. Clean the gasket, valve cover, and seating surface of the head. Unless it's cracked/brittle, cut or already leaking you can re-use it. Even iff it was broke in one spot, I'd just RTV silicone the pieces together with a little overlap and put it back on.
