Head Gasket Question

I'm looking for suggestions on what type head gasket i should use. I'm getting ready to pull the head to O-ring and stud it.

(see my sig for what i'm running) but i'm looking for boost in the 65 lb range. (or more if so be it) is copper durable enough for daily usage? how about a marine gasket? or will a . 020 over stock replacement work w/ the studding? also where's best place to get a head set?

Cummins? i'm open to all suggestions. . TIA

You may want to contact Piers or HVAC... HVAC o-ringed my head and I elected to replace with stock gasket. I know of others who have used copper & studs, and sometimes have leakage. Copper gaskets require extra care and right kind of adhesive when applying. . In addition, the head bolts have to be re-torqued. A o-ringed head with stock gaskets, probably 65 max. safe boost levels. o-ringed head with copper 70+???



I used my stock head bolts... studs would probably be better.

Oh I see you have a 24v. I used a marine gasket, before I finally o-ringed my head. The marine gasket is for a 12v so you got to drill out and plug some cooling ports, because the head is different... Since I have an HO, it dropped my compression and ran like crap??? Blew that gasket, and went back to stock.

I went with a 40 thou wire and a 10 thou protrusion.

Make sure the o-ring groove is under sized compared to the wire by about 2 thou for good hold.

Make sure the groove is not rounded.

OEM gasket is holding fine with stock bolts at 54 psi of manifold pressure.

I do believe this is working quite well.

The stock Gasket and head bolts should hold up fine with O-Ringing. I Oringed the head and receiver grooved the block. Since then I have "Tested" the headgasket way past what it would hold stock. During some Propane testing I had detonation that would have easily blown out the gasket as I did the first time. Plus with different turbo testing it has been past 55-60 psi many times. Kurt

Sparky, are you still dragging around the Bar-B-Q tank? I got rid of mine long ago, if favor of some different gas, I guess you still have the advantage over me in case you break down in the desert somewhere, you can BBQ some snake... Yummieeeee.

Scott, O-Ringing the head and Installing a . 020 Marine gasket seems to be the best/easiest was to go, 65 psi is fine, I look at it like this, if I can't make power at that boost level then I need to quit plus my Twins are going south in a hurry after 70.

I gave up on the gas... . Long ago... ... Not worth the hassel. Back to just adding more #2 and the coolest charge air possible!!!.....



P. S. Gave up snake too... . Just eating the scorpions these days and their the best at room temp!!
