PODs STINK...Literally

Why does it state that some pumps cannot be turned up?

Your link fails -- here it is, clickable: http://www.smokindiesel.com/Dodge/12_valve/12_valve_fueling.html

FWIW, both Bully and PDW show the 'POD' injectors at $440 list... but PDR has them on sale (no expiration date posted) at http://www.piersdiesel.com/Specials.htm for $360... .

I'm on the fence for buying these injectors -- I figure $60 bucks each is a pretty decent price for a set of six matched and balanced injectors... I'm just failing to justify the expense before Christmas (though I really would like to have those injectors in play before my trip from Sacramento CA to Lansing MI)

I paid 285. 00 no core threw Diesel Tech.

That's a GREAT price... is that for this particular injector: https://secure.wwmns.com/bullydog/product.asp?intProdID=25

... or is it something different still?

What's the difference between PDR's Lucas injectors and Bully Dog's Bosch injectors? I've seen a post where Piers posted dyno numbers for the Lucas setup... is there similar data available for the Bosch setup?

I've been reading up on injectors all weekend... there seems to be a lot of mystery swirling around injectors specs, or even part numbers (some folks report that the numbers are filed off?!?!). I understand the concept of trade secrets, but dang, it makes it hard to choose, at least from the consumer side of the fence.

I asked about differances and never really got a answer, mine were in housings that said Brazil??All i know is they seem to perform really well. easily pull 20 plus psi boost from a stop and 900 plus egt. my pump has never been into. At higher speeds it pulls this easily when hit WOT. I know it woke my beast UP. Havent towed with them yet. I normally pull fully loaded 9600lbs. It varies on on amount and weight of horses and gear etc. Smoke is slight at times depends on engine temp etc. Fuel mileage appears to have gone up a fair amount. Will know after this tank of fuel. I don't drive my truck for days at times. Got a 1998 1500slt with 318 thats my daily driver. My diesel has only 111,000 miles.

Definitely post back with data on your Bosch injectors... .

Mileage improvements sure would make it easier to rationalize with my wife...

MMiller,

Congrats on your job! I am sure you feel a lot better now. Good posts about the tappets and the injectors. My fault, I forgot about those details. When I do a head gasket job, I might remove the head with the injectors in, and then deal with them latter when I have the head right infront of me on a bench. Yeah, push rods and tappets, where I work, you will never get made fun of if you are all hunched over an engine with a flashlight making sure the push rods are in right, the aftermath from not getting it right is  I have only worked on Cummins stuff, and would have to say that from the looks of it, Cat would be a lot more reasonable to work on.

Take Care,

Russell

Mark said to be sure and install the marine version of the head gasket. Does anyone have a part number for this gasket - I need to do mine. Thanks, Henry

For everyone's info, I just hung up with Cummins Cal Pacific and they informed me that the 1990 marine and the automotive (innercooled and non-innercooled) are the same head gasket.

12 valve head gaskets:

3283335 stock thickness, same as marine application

3283337, 0. 010" (0. 25 mm) thicker

3283339, 0. 020" (0. 50 mm) thicker

Marine and Truck head gaskets were different at one time. Truck design was prone to failure so were droped in favour of stronger Marine gaskets. Don't buy old stock sitting on someones shelf even if its the bargin of the day unless it has one of the numbers posted above by Joe. D
