Head lights?

Is there anything that can be done to the head light system to make it brighter? This is my third dodge cummins and by far it has the worst head lights. I would think that dodge would improve there lights from year to year but I guess they are going backwards. Just wondering if there is any thing to make it better?

Have you searched for the Brite Box threads. The Brite Box mod made a huge difference with the amount of light my truck puts on the road. Plus I have high beam (9005's) bulbs in the fogs which makes a big difference too. Read THIS thread. Or do a search for BRITE BOX . If you have any extra questions PM TDR member OCLV

Actually, they did improve the lights for 2006 - mine work awesome! Makes my old 2nd gen headlights look like they work on semi-dead AA batteries.



For most of those with the old 3rd gens, I read that Silverstar bulbs seem to help.

Get a Brite Box, best money spent on lighting! upgrade the bulbs to Silver Stars and you will be quite impressed.

Doesn't the standard Brite Box simply use high and low beams in combination? I've tried that by holding the selecter lever and I'm not impressed at all. I need more light down the road in the high beam area, not right in front of me where the low beams shine. Highs and lows together give the illusion of better vision because of all the light close in front of the vehicle, but down the road I really don't see any improvement. I think it's the reflecter setup that's at fault, and I've resigned myself to living (or dieing) with it. Jeff

Same here, I did the bright box on my 03 and for my 05 I am adding a pair of 120mm Hella High beams with 100w Xenon bulbs.

I just traded the 04 in on an 06, and the new headlights are alot better.

It's hard to tell if the low beams even shut off when you turn on the high beams.

If you're going to go throught the expense of a brite box, why not just get a small lightbar and a pair of good lights..... I haven't done it yet, but I dont have any issue with the stock 05 lights..... doesnt get too dark in california with 800 million people!

I towed about 8000lbs from Montana to Alaska this spring and the only thing that got too hot was the EGT's. You would think it would hinder cooling, but I have not had any issues with transmission or engine temps getting out of control.



The Brite Box was a great improvement, but the Light Force get out there a good 1/2 mile or more to see the Big Moose running around.

Well I did a couple of things so far. I changed the driving lights with the Silverstars and also put in Silverstar 9005's (after I modified them) in the fog lights. And my results with the fog lights are better, but still the high beams I can't tell any differance. I was hoping that they would help the high beams but didn't.

So am I hearing this right, if I want to put a BRITE BOX on my truck, I have to buy two? So I am looking at $360 just to make my low beams stay on with the high, then plus if I want to have the fog lights come on also I need to spend another $100 plus dollars? :{

I think that I would be more interested in spending that kind of my on some lights like JCROCKETT's

I installed Sylvania Silverstars for the headlights and the fog lights. They are definately brihter however i hear they dont last, ill let the forum know. Another possibility is a brush bar with Hella's on it now thats way cool. .

You're pretty much out of luck without adding additional lights. I've tried the silverstar and other bulbs, its a very small if any improvement (personally think it was just my imagination thinking they might be brighter). You can help out the low beams with a brite box, fog light mods etc, but nothing helps the high beams which is what needs the most help. Soon as i get a brush guard I plan on adding auxiliary high beams. Take a look at www.rallylights.com though the sight seems to be down at the moment.

Hi all, I just purchased a 05 srw and I agree on the lights, my question to you all is, is it not enough light? or are the headlights not aimed properly, does anyone out there know how to adjust the up down portion of the lights, I think I have found the left right adjuster, now to find the up down adjuster, I think that would help Don

There is a little rod that goes from the front of the light to the back of the light on the inside towards the radiators. It's looks like a 8 sided star or something like that. I think that it's black. I can't remember if tightening it raises or lowers the the beam.

Mine came adjusted properly. Probably even aimed a tad high now with the camper on. Problem is a poorly designed reflector with a poorly designed bulb. The difference I get on my jeep with 7" round hella e-code headlights is just night and day. Unfortunately our government basically lets the automakers do whatever they want. And having pretty lights is more important than having functional lights. At least its not quite as bad as those micro retangular headlights chevy used a few years ago.
