Competition MPH increase with Drag Comp?

Competition flow rating of powerstroke intercooler?

anybody got any flow numbers out there they would like to share so that when I get on the flow bench next week I can tell if I am in the ball park :p #ad

Looks like you have opened the port quite a bit. Good for the flow... just make sure the gasket isn't smaller than your new improved port. Also, make sure the exhaust manifold is as big or bigger than the port. No point in having a great flowing head and stuffing a cork in it with mismatched runners!!!

Are you an experienced head porter or is this a first attempt? I port a lot of heads with good results if you are looking for any tips.

Steve

thanks steve I have done some gasser stuff. gasket area should be ok thats ported to the carben stain. I will have gasket this week to finish. the manifold is an ats but it still needs some work

Lookin' good George... .

Most forced induction engines (diesel included) benefit most from bowl area and short-side radius work.

All I have ported is intake manifolds... I never got the guts to ruin a perfectly good head all by myself. :D

Matt

thanks Matt I know what you mean I swore I would never port another set of heads but I could not justify the cost on these I dont see that much that you can do with them and its only 6 cylinders

TDK whats wrong with only one stake :D

Drew:

My truck still runs with a 6" hole in the bed and the leftover brackets for the stack. :D If you goof up a port job while messing around in the bowl area and nick a valve seat... . then you'll be wishing you never started.

Besides... . the hole in the bed helps the melted snow drain out better! :-laf

Matt

back from the speed shop here is the ported numbers we got

lift cc

So the general consesus is....

it is OK to head port for decreased EGT if racing, but not to decrease EGT for towing:confused:

I thought, looking at the picture on Piers site, that porting was "safe" if one paid careful attention to the "caution" areas. Perhaps I should not have stuck my toe into something I don't know much about.

I am curious, though, as I was thinking I might try the head porting in a couple of years. I only use my truck for towing.

steve no it fine to port for towing also but I went a little bigger on the exit side than the pics on piers shows so I may be mor prone to crack in some spots but I dont even thank its that thin to give any real problems but I guess I will find out

I thank Gene is poking fun more than anything George
