Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) How Much Oil Is.......

I have studded my head and need help clearancing the valve covers. How much room is above the rocker arm assembly before I contact the valve cover? In other words, how much can the head stud stick up above the rocker arm mount before I hit the valve cover? Are there any more answers to this problem, like a different valve cover? Or is there a spacer for the valve cover?

Thanks in advance,

Ronnie

use a dremel and remove the webbing on the valve covers that goes over the rocker pedestal. or bottom tap the holes and that should give about a quarter inch more stud into the block. then the stud will be almost even with the top of the nut. then you will have nothing to worry about.

I have ground the stud off to the top of the nut, and still have interference between the stud and the valve cover. I put the valve covers in a vertical mill and removed the webbing also.

Who can tell me how much room is above the rocker arm assembly? I have shortened the stud and removed the valve cover webbing. Anyone?

TIA

Ronnie

I don't know for sure but I'm thinking probably an 1/8" or so. My stud and nut are flush using the washer and when I take the valve covers off sometimes there is a small dab of oil where the stud tip would be so there can't be much room.

Ronnie, I removed the webbing and still didn't have enough clearance. I didn't want to fool with the studs or removing the washer. This was even after I bottom tapped the holes in the block. So I just went a little deeper into the wall of the valve cover as you can see in the pic. With no gasket on the valve cover, dab some grease ontop the stud/nut, and place the cover on, you want it to sit flat with no gasket. Just keep removing material til you don't get any grease inside the valve cover.
