Scotty II hole saw

You guy's who've installed head studs, i' cant find a bottoming tap locally. if i took a reg tap and cut it off just before the taper would this work? i know it sounds kinda crude but i just want to clean up the bottom threads. i would be greatful for ANY help.

i have 12mmx1. 75's

TIA Scott

I've cut them off several times in a pinch, works just fine. Screw a high grade nut onto the tap before cutting with a angle grinder or air cut-off tool. The nut will clean up the cut area and give you a guide for a square cut.

http://store.kelwelco.com/Stores_App/Store.asp?Shopper_Id=6121971527276121&Store_id=126&page_id=5 has them. Couldn't find them on their website, but they are in the catalog. Just call them up.

Their part #'s are easy to figure out. For instance if you want a 3/8" bottoming tap, it would be KTAP3/8-16BTM for course thread. They all start out with KTAP, then insert the bolt size w/thread pitch, and BTM at the end.

They have them with course and fine thread from 4-40NC to 3/4"-1616NF.
