customer wants head studs in his 96 w/207kmi. he said they reccomend shaving .030 off of head. is that advisable or nessisary? I have never done this before. any advise will be greatly appreciated. thank you

What!? Shave. 0.030" off the head, for what? Someone's confused.
These days ARP studs need some taken off the rocker pedestal (0.2" I think) for clearance but not the head.

Who is "they"?

When the head is off it must be checked for flatness. If it's out of spec, which is most likely, then it will need to be "decked" (machined) to make it flat again. Removing 0.030" to accomplish this is pretty extreme.

Yeah, you've gotta knock .25" iirc off the back corner of the rocker pedestals to provide clearance for the nut/washer (they're taller than the head of the bolt they're replacing). The head itself is a different issue, like they said.
