Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Headgasket made in China!!

Bought a complete upper gasket set from Cummins and the headgasket has made in China stamped on it!! Anybody eles run across this yet? Mike

awell im not suprised seems everything is made there. I love red wing work boots and have bought them for years. last pair stamped made in china. I see quite a few cummins parts now coming from there. SAD.

We've long since LOST the battle of USA made stuff vs the foreign products - all the weeping won't get it back, either - and yeah, I too mourn the lost days of reliable, quality "Made in USA" stuff we used to have available to us.



Might as well also mourn the MANY major foundries, manufacturers and (gasp!) even telephone help and service lines now handled by places like India - complete with "helpers" who can't speak decent English - or even BEGIN to understand the problem you need help with...



Just as well get used to it all - no options on the near horizon, we've become a nation of consumers, where we were once the innovators and manufacturers. Those days look to be gone forever - best we can do is try to at least get the BEST foreign-made stuff that's available - if there IS a "best"...



God help us if we ever needed to tool up for a major war or similar emergency - without the foundries, major manufacturers like GM, Chrysler and Ford to tool up and roll out the hardware, we'd probably have to BUY the stuff from those we were fighting - China, for instance...

Yea, I remember when I went looking for new front wheel bearings for my 95 2-wheel drive truck. Guy drops a set on the counter and says there $7 each! I open the box and see China stamped on em. I said no way, I want made in USA Timco bearings. Guy says, Sorry, I can't help ya! I ended up going to 3 parts stores, and had to order them, and wait. I got the inner units from one store, and the outers from another store. The Timco's cost 4 times the cheap junk from China, but there is NO WAY I would install that junk on my truck. I have made in USA Timco bearings on my truck, and was happy to pay for good quality parts.

I wonder if Timco still makes stuff, or if the bearings were old stock sitting in a warehouse some where?... ..... What a shame... ... ... ...

Timken unit bearings, to include American Light truck applications ar made in brazil and china. There isnt much made in America and if it is its usually just assembled here from parts made elswhere. In a global market the jobs move where the labor for the same products is the cheapest. Name a product that isnt a cottage industry like maple syrup and its made in part or whole in another country.

The last three fuel filters I bought at the VW dealer for my TDI were all made in China. It's not surprising as VW has a large manufacturing presence in China. I, too, prefer "Made in USA" but I also understand we are part of a global economy. What me must resist, at all costs, is allowing these multi-national corporations becoming a pseudo-world government! Just as states' rights are important on our home turf, national sovereignty across the globe must be also maintained.

Its not personal, its economics: companies will move where the inputs (labor in this case) are cheaper. How can one justify paying someone $40-$50 an hour when there are others willing to do the same work for $10? The fact that it's"made in America" cant overcome the economics of production and custoimers certainly arent willing to shoulder the cost for the higher labor. If Levis were made in america they'd be $150 a pair. I highly doubt anyone here is willing to spend that kind of moeny on jeans. I've already seen folks on this very website *****in about the cost of a unit bearing: if they were actually made here theyd be twice to three times as expensive to cover the cost of labor.

well,,,if you want to blame something for high labor cost,,,Blame the F*&^*G Unions that go out and rape someone's companies over the coals,,to get they're members more and more money for less and less work,,the employees just love to hear Unions comming in because they think,,"great more money",,which is REALLY more money for the union bosses,,BUT,,what they dont realize is WHEN they're employers decide to move the entire company overseas,,,THEN, where's their Union. .
In my eyes... employees dont see the big picture,,your Union extorts your company owners,,labor costs go up,,big company moves to china for cheap labor,,,your *** is in the unemployment line,,,you can't get more Union work,,BECAUSE all the companies are heading over to cheap labor countries. . so less and less companies,,less and less jobs,,more unemployment... more foreclosures,,so in the end,,,,YOUR UNION got rich,,,your big company employer got rich... and YOUR *** is in the streets,,and your UNION bosses still have their big house,,big car,,loads of cash at the bank,,,you think for one minute he gives a crap about YOU...

A local larger multi million dollar company had some of his employees try to bring in a UNION,,all he did was show up at the meeting,,,told the employees,,if they do bring in a UNION,,,he's closing the doors the next day... cashing in his 200 millions dollars worth of assets,,,on top of the 40 million he allready has in the bank,,and no biggies for him,,he'll jump back in his mercedes and go back to his mansion and live happilly ever after,,,,BUT where will they be after he closes up shop. .
The Union rep never had time to make his pitch,,,everybody there walked out,,frontier justice is still alive and well IF an owner has the balls,,,and it still works as well now as it did back then,,
AND yes,,he was paying better than average pay,,and benefits,and all the rest,,the employees just thought a UNION would be an automatic pay raise,,,instead of a raise in pay based on PERFORMANCE,,they way it should be,,,YOU REALLY dont deserve a raise if you're not performing adequately,,,UNIONS are great for slackers who just want to get automatic raises without the work...
DONT GET ME WRONG I KNOW THERE ARE SOME GREAT UNION WORKERS. . but there are more slackers. .
So big companies better wake up and start standing up to the stinking Unions... . it's YOUR company,,so have some balls,,,treat your employees right,,pay them a good wage,,,keep your company in North America,,

As far as unions are concerned, take into consideration that there are two sides to that argument. The union movement was started to help the working people deal with greedy employers and to force them to provide for some safety in the work place. The employees and the unions, in some cases, became greedy forcing management to look for a better way. China provided that but I don't think we are very smart giving up our manufacturing base in this country to help propel China, and others into becoming dominating economies.



About 70 years ago, this country dug itself out of a severe depression to confront and help defeat those nations that thought they should control the world.

I don't think we could do that again.

I dont think a "non greedy" union exists,,now days,,they are there to try and extort form as many companies as they can,,,and it BACKFIRING on them,,companies are moving overseas,,and bye bye jobs,,,
So when so smart *** in a company decides he'll try to bring in a Union so he can have a nice pay raise for no reason and be safer from firring because of inept work,,he should think twice about it,,he may get his union,,and maybe a pay raise when the union comes in,,,but a month later when he's told the company is moving to china because the union his taking too much,,,and his *** is on the unemployement line,,just how much ahead will he be,,,eventually they'll be no more manufacturing jobs in north America,,then where will we be. .
Oh and where is the government going to take all these lost tax dollars,,,,squeezing the rest of the sucker tax payers thats where,,,,eventually the sucker base is shrinking more and more,,the underground workforce grows,,,,no tax dollars for the government fatcats to play with,,so how exactly do you run a country when they're no money for a decent government... you become a lawless third world poor country. .
Pretty soon we may be looked at at as the stupidest Continent ever,,going from world economic leaders to nearly bankrupt society,,corporate greed will be our downfall,,unless governemtngets some balls and starts madating some rules against going offshore,,,IF YOU WANT TO SELL IN NORTH AMERICA YOU HAVE TO MAKE IN NORTH AMERICA,,,period,,dump the UNIONS,,madate a set of work rules equal for everybody,,fair pay for fair work,,implement severe safety regulations,,this way you cut out the fatcats unions,,save millions of dollars that can be put toward the employees pay and benifits,,,lowers the price of goods in keeping with salaries,,,and you put more americans to work,,the economy grows,,,pretty simple,,not hardly to ever happen since paying for slush funds for the corrupt officials in government to play with seems to be the MOST important thing. .
It's not lookin good people,,better wake up and soon or your children will reduced to farming and raising chickens for the KING again. .
