proof we are getting screwed on diesel

Hi all,

My friend and I are going to easter jeep safari in moab this april. realisticly how long does it take to drive from NJ to Denver. We are towing a gooseneck with 2 jeeps. Any help is appreciated.

Hey Jersey!

Former exit 114 (Middletown) here! You'll want to keep an eye on the weather through the Rockies as winter is still here in April. Check out this site: CO Weather Conditions for updates during your travels. Pay particular attention to the chain laws (is your '02 4WD?)

Do you have an exhaust brake? If not I strongly urge you to take it easy on the section of I-70 west of Denver till you get down from Vail Pass. It is very steep in many places particularl at the Eisenhower Tunnel (Continental Divide. ) I would recommend driving it during dayligth hours.

The drive from NJ to the DVR area is doable at a comfortable rate in 2 days during good weather conditions. Again, check the link I posted as there can be interstate closures often from the Kansas border to DVR due to blizzard conditions.

A looooooog time!!! :-laf

Hey,

According to my De Lorme' map system, I wasn't able to locate Warren NJ, (search glitch)... but from I-80 near Exit 12, it is 1,721 miles to denver. and 2,082 total to Moab.

From NJ to Denver, towing, I'd allow 3 days at least to get to Denver and from there, 1 day to get to Moab.....

Don' do it ----

You'll never go back to NJ!!!!!!! There's a ZILLION MIles to drive out there and those guys are right - April can be very tricky west of Denver... ... . You'll also get to see how your rig wil run on some real steep grades -

yes it is 4wd. My friend lives in leadville I was going to see him on the way out. I have been to co. every year for about 10 yrs. It is very difficult to come back home. I will look into the EB when I get my trans done this winter. Thank's for the info. we are trying to nail down this trip now so we don't have to rush later and get a room in moab.

Marc

HA HA HA, very funny and true. If I don't get my DTT this winter then we are using jayson's ctd. probably will use his anyway as his has a bigger back seat and there are 4 of us going. Actually I was towing my jeep to paragon last weekend and trans was not to bad. Only when I use the go pedel. :-laf

Happy turkey day,

Marc

We've been out there camping and rented a jeep from a local shop and had a good, scary ride out in Canyonlands National Park.

When going to Moab, make sure you make reservations way ahead of time so you'lll have a place to stay. They have all sorts of Spring events out there and the whole place sells out of rooms and campsites... . and brother, there ain't nothing any where near there..... just desert and red sandstone rock.

Easterners (like myself) usually get in trouble by not having enough water on board and not having emergency supplies (lots of blankets in case you have to spend the night out there!).

We're Geezers, so I stayed on the main trail where there's lots of traffic and filed a trail plan so the rangers would come looking for us if we had any problems.

You guys are in for a real treat.

We are going out for easter jeep safari. I can't wait. I've been wanting to go out west during the warm season for a while. Been to CO. a dozen times but allways in the winter so this will be a nice change.

Marc

You're gonn'a miss

the real warm season by a couple of months - and April can be trickier than you think - especially like this winter is starting -
