Topz I always said that the engineers needed to work on the line for at least a year before designing anything, A 1957 Chevy , you had to holesaw a hole in the right wheel well the get the right rear plugs out of the v8 unless you were a contortionist. I am a retired Engineer and I tried to live by that guideline my whole career!

My son went into engineering and the company he works for has mechanics working with the engineers which i applaud! When I work at a Toyota dealership, we'd cuss the engineers for how you had to work on them!

Being a retired engineer From Cat. we would work with MANUFACTURING ENGEERING/Service dep. to do a fitment in prove design of major designs and changes. In fact, a service audit was done on accessibility to service items by the service engineering team scoring the removal of components from the machine. After the audit was complete the engineering team would have to respond to the service audit making changes as required.

Will in the early 2000's Cat. started to hire engineers and planners from the automotive industry. Boy, that was an eye opener for most of us. I had a knock down dragged-out battle with one ex-ford employee over a redesign on a major component. I mention the service ability requirements and the prior service audit on that machine. Their comment was this was not important, the improved line speed and packaging of the component out-weighed field service. Needless to say, I won that argument at least until retirement.

My point is it is not always the engineer but sometimes the packaging team for the automotive field who have the last say.

Friends,
Thought I'd add I pulled both my premium projector headlights about 3 times testing didderent bulbs om my 2017 Laramie 5500 until I got the GTR LEDs. They weren't too bad, but considering they are the best factory headlights Ram has put on a truck until the 19+ factory LED headlights. Whilest we are discussing engineering, these are not that bad to remove and the quality is outstanding. Of course, this is my humble opinion.

BTW, AH64ID is selling off his LED GTRs he had in his former 18. Good deal for someone to make the ultimate upgrade on a 13 to 18 Ram.

Cheers, Ron
