2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Headlight Demon

The other day I noticed that the high beam was out on the left side. No big deal - I grabbed a new bulb at Napa and swapped it out, except that it didn't fix it (the old bulb even looked bad too). So before I tear apart all the wiring, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and if there is one particular place I should look first.

Hokay, check your headlight fuses, check for voltage at the 3 pin plug. You say the old bulb didn't look good - was it severely blackened/silvered, did it maybe have damage from water getting in the housing?? I ferget cause I completely rewired the 'doghouse but originally are there separate left and right headlamp fuses??
