Out of boredom I removed one of my headlights (dont ask why, I'm not sure) but I discovered a 3rd bulb behind the lower reflector. It was burned out so I checked the other side, same thing. It's a small bulb and doesnt look like it would do much (bout the size of a dashboard light), expecialy behind a reflector. Just curiouse what it's suppose to light up. I've never noticed other trucks with the lower reflector light up, just seems strange to me.

Also, It looks like the clear part of the headlight can be removed. Has anybody done this before for anyreason? I thought the headlight might look better if I was to remove or paint the reflectors. To keep it legal I guess I'd just paint over them and keep some sort of small strip or design or something "reflectable". Just curiouse if anybody has done this and has any tips how to brake the RTV type seal and not brake any of the small clips.

I haven't done this myself, but I have read where some folks have separated the lens from the housings by heating the assembly in the oven. You have to watch the assemblies very closely and remove them at just the right time when the sealant has become soft. Most have done this to paint the inside of the housing black to get the SRT 10 look.

You can put the headlight assembly in an approx. 160 degree oven for approximately 20 minutes, then gently pry it apart, being mindful of the interlocking tabs that are around the edge. The heat softens the glue, BUT the glue can get stringy and hardens fast again, so be VERY CAREFUL not to get any on the inside reflector or lense as you pry, as it is impossible to clean off again.

The light DOES look very good IMO without the orange side reflector, and since the bulb is orange anyway, it is still legal. I removed the reflector by carefully drilling out the plastic rivets from the back side.

Hope this helps.

Man I need to have the free time in my life you guys do. Not that I'd use it to bake my headlights I'd just like to have the time.

I too wish I had more time, I've gone to just buying new stuff already done. I just ordered new taillights for both trucks and headlights for the 01 already blacked out.
I'm pretty sure there must be some reflective orange per DOT so even when the truck is off it can be seen in headlights. You might keep that in mind.
I got the head lights they have on Genos but for a little cheaper, they should be in soon.

Iv thought about changing the bulbs on mine to something better.

My question is how do you remove them on an 05?

thanks.

Thanks for the tips. And it aint too often I have enough time to be that bored, but the more I think about painting the chrome around the headlights to match my truck color the more I want to do it... . so I may MAKE the time one of these weekends!

I replaced that bulb I was talking about and it turns out that it does light up the front part of the lower reflector. Go figure

Out they come...

You have to take out the headlights.

It isn't too hard but you have to be careful after you take out the (3, I think) screws because they have those plastic pop in deals at the outer edges that are at a funny angle and people usually break them the first time they pop them out. Once you've broken one you'll know what I mean. It isn't too big of a deal if you do, just kind of a bummer.

on the 06 that third bulb is a clearance light, i changed it out to a led, i changed the turn and marker light to a 3watt dual led while i had the lense off and the light apart to change the head light to a projector hid i cut the reflector off of the signal /marker light
