On my 1996 3500, my headlight switch and plug melted at 147,000 miles. I guess I got lucky it lasted this long! The Dealer recalled the iteam, and the recall said to replace the switch and plug harness and to install rely on the parking lamp side of the harness. Since I've had previous problems with dealer repairs I try to do all my own work. My question is, does anyone out there know where to pick up the hot wires for the rely? I already have the parking light circuit identified, but what is the best power source to use without getting into trouble? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P. S. If I don't respond right away it's because computers and I don't get along very well. So thank you in advance!!

3500 ram, diesel , ranchhand grill guard, 4 inch exhaust, us gear 2-speed pac-brake, gauges, stock hp so far.

Buy the recall kit from the dealer, it will have the instructions in it. Then contact DC and request reimbursement, they will cover the cost.

One watchout: When you reinstall the new switch, the tab for the ground wire needs to be bent to allow it to fit or it will hit the defrost duct. REMOVE THE CONNECTOR AND BEND WITH A PLIERS!!!

The nimrod that did mine at the dealer bent it with the connector on which opened up the connector which fell off 2 days later when I hooked up a borrowed trailer. That was a fun one to find!

Can I get more information of this. I had my dash lights go out on my 98. I replaced the headlight switch and noticed that the plastic connector was melted some. Is there a recall? If so what number.

Thank you Extreme1

Bart, My advice for what it is worth is to go to your Dodge Dealer with your vin # and they should be able to look up any and all recalls.

To fix the problem for good you need to install a relay switch.

I replaced it my self, I seem to always have such trouble going anywhere. I can't find the website but I called Chris Barrett @ Proformance Services 905-459-9282 he is in Canada, and well worth the call. He is really up on things.

So far it's working great. Good luck.

The recall is for the older 97 and down trucks. The headlamp switch, and or connector will melt due to heat. If it is a problem or you wish to add more lights to the truck, then rewiring the circuit with an added relay will take the load off the switch,so the problem will not re-occur.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear I was of some help. My website (nothing special, but it works) is available by clicking on the link in my signature. I wish I had a 1-800 number,so it would save ya the long distance.
