ok, got the clear lenses installed today, going to test tonight, there are no adjusters on them... seems lame to me!!. mine are the one piece units from ebay, and not cheap!, it did not even occur to me to ask, I thought all headlights had adjusters... unbelievable... ... ..... I think Dons are the 2 piece units and I think are adjustable like stock... Don you around to confirm??? , I suspect I will be bummed after dark tonight.

For sure mine are adjustable, right and left, up and down. Cannot fathom non adjustable ones. Mine are in fact two piece, the parking/signal light is a separate piece from the headlight. .

I have not got a chance to really test mine, drove 2500 miles in the daylight! Did get a little dark on the last leg coming home, seemed to be plenty of light and did not seem to need adjustment, nobody flashed at me and I could see well.

I have a quick question. My headlights need replacing and I was looking at the ones listed in Geno's. I have an 01 Sport and in checking out Geno's, it says that the ones they have will not fit in the Sport model. Is there a difference in the headlamp assemblies between the regular and Sport models?

Going to have to get some new ones one of these days and I checked out the ones discussed in this thread. They look pretty nice. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Don, not trying to hijack your thread but we have allot of guys following along so thought to drop this info here and keep it all in one place.

guys, here is the long version of the road I took with headlights to this point, It may be to much but its the facts and you should know so you dont do what I have had to go through. also some background I have owned very good lights in my younger days in my street cars and off road buggies and know what good lighting is and how to set things up right.

my '98 Ram needs new headlights, so I bought brand new Mopar lenses from ebay, stock bulbs are not that bright as we know, so I thought it was time to try out the new HID bulbs that are for sale everywhere. did my homework read posts till my eyes about fell out and found 95% of the kits are just thrown together by yahoo's and barely work,

I found a guy selling nice kits on another forum and no bad feedback and he has sold a ton of kits. so I figure this is the cat to buy from..... we talk back and forth and I figure out I want a pretty bright light almost to bright for the street, I went with the 4300K kit... ... FYI... . hid's work backwards in values, the lower the number the brighter the white light the larger number the softer and blue light comes into play... . at least that's what I was told.

I install the new Stock lenses and my neato HID bulbs and go out late to adjust them up, short story the hids enhance the lense casting/lines really, really, really bad. I have vids if your really into this thing, anyway this setup is like 10's worse than a stock setup in my opinion completely worthless garbage.

I talk with the hid bulb guy again, gee I am the first guy to ever call up and say hey these really dont work in stock lenses to well?, "really, your the first guy to ever complain" seems I here that more and more with vendors these days, its the new escape line.

we figure clear lenses may get things in order, so I order up clear lenses from ebay, they arrive go to install notice no adjusters, uh oh. . not good! . I go for it anyway, what else do you do bumper is loose and one headlight is on the bench, wait till dark... they suck also... lighting is all over and some shadows in the street from the lenses and no way to adjust them. oh and they fit like crap, mega gaps at the turn lense and the fender, like 5/8"

I think just because there bright as heck when your in front of the rig these buyers of the Hid's think there better, boggles my mind they dont see the lack of lighting on the road, and not to mention the one guy is right, if your the oncoming car at a HID converted rig they will blind you like a camera flash and leave you seeing dots, I stood out infront of my truck about 100/150ft last night with the clear lenses and it took my eyes 10 mins to comeback, I think you will see someone get sued soon over a accident caused by a aftermarket hid conversion.

I am back to square one at this point, and the bad thing is I still want good lights, so I am back into sorting some more,

I would like to see good night time pics or a short vid of Gary's clear lights on a road with no street lights to see how his clear lenses throw the light. Gary you around??

I believe a standard 9004 type bulb with 2 filaments is the way to go with a upgrade wiring harness to power both filaments when in hi beam mode. and if you can get sport lenses in your truck with 4 bulbs all the better!. ... not sure what to say about stock lenses with good bulbs or clear lenses at this point of the RD.

these HID bulbs I have, also have another weird flaw, they have one filament, there idea of the Hi beam is it actually pulls the bulb back into the socket when you go to hi beam 1/4", stupid in my opinion, the beam should pull in a brighter filament, not adjust what's already lit.

I maybe should have stayed at a Holiday Inn before starting this phase of the truck.

so far

stock lenses $100

Hid Bulbs $200

Clear lens $148 ,so $348 bucks of garbage so far,

and my dang bumper has to comer loose to change lenses, no way to wiggle them out.

my next move is use the stock lenses or go with the clear ones like Don and Gary are running and a stock type bulb preferably a tad brighter than stock with a relay kit to power both filaments when on hi beam... .

if anyone has a source for a good relay harness and bulbs post up please.

and has anyone found a source for the stock round foglight kits that drop into the lower bumper? non on ebay or anywhere I have looked, trying to avoid the dealer on this kit.

Peace,B.

Headlights are similar to optics, they are relative!!

The sport light upgrade are an improvement,

but if you plan on keeping your truck forever,(As I do!)

then the ONLY way to get top notch lighting, that will NOT

blind oncoming traffic is to use HELLA BIxenon modules

($650 each) and fabricate a housing.

Compared to these, everything else is a lousy

compromise!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going with this link Charlie provided, clear lense, sport bulbs with the relay for doul bulb function, Dodge Ram Sport Headlight Conversion

unless you guys have a better suggestion, I am a beat man on this end, no more hair to pull out and the patiance is long gone.

I always watch the light conversions as I need to do my 01" however I do not want to do the sportlight conversion because of the fabrication involved. This should not be this hard to find a fix that is for us mechanically challenged!!!

There really isn't any fabrication, just cut out the existing hole a bit bigger on I believe anything older than a 1999. It was a fast and easy project with nothing complex about it.

thanks for the info. :) somehow I missed the hole would be there on my 01':)

if it only needs to be a little bigger surely I can use a round file and not mess my truck up too too much up!!!:-laf

You shouldn't have to do any cutting on your 2001, starting in 99 the fenders were all cut at the factory to accept the four bulb configuration.

Some people get nervous when ever a saw is involved:-laf Pull your light out if it is elongated "oval" the sport light should fit. The older 2nd generations such as mine only have a round hole large enough for one headlight plug... I am 99% sure of this but the other posters seem to validate my post

HMMmmm - tall order for plain vanilla photo equipment and no "before" pics for comparison...

My OEM lights still had great, clear lenses - I still have them saved out in the shed out back - but they were obviously inferior to what I expected as far as down the road lighting, so the switch.

The new lights are absolutely head and shoulders superior to the OEM junk - and sure, I'll try some night photos as soon as I can, but have doubts they'll prove to accurately display their actual improvement.

Without HID done correctly which a member or two have done with lots of time and bucks, the best bet is the sport light conversion.

I have the same lights as Gary (DEPO brand). I bought a plug and play harness from here suvlights.com Dodge Ram (Sport Headlights) Super Heavy Duty Conversion Harness w/4 relays 9004

On the later 2nd gen trucks this is a total plug and play operation, no cutting, etc. required.

I would say a seat of the pants guess is the light down the road is twice as good as stock (at least the non sport stock setup).

My 2005 Jetta had way better lights than the Dodge did stock, NOW my Ram blows the VW lights away, it is that much of an improvement. I am running the blubs that came with the DEPO housings, I think they were Phillips bulbs, nothing fancy though.

I here ya guys, I am on it, ordering the sport dual bulb deal in the morning, hey what's another $350 at this point, let the bleeding stop soon though.

peace, B.

Just installed my 1 piece clear lenses like budnate had tried today on my truck. Not impressed with the lack of adjustability. Quite a bit more light compared to my stock lenses but they are adjusted up way too high. I'm going to try and adjust the reflecter down a bit and see if that helps if not I may attempt to shim the entire lens housing down a bit. We'll see what happens. I will say that mine did go in easy without removing the bumper. Pulled the stockers out and had the new 1 piece lenses in within 20 minutes max probably.

Hopefully I can get these things adjusted down a bit and I think they should be pretty good with the Silverstar bulbs I've got in them right now. Pictures can be posted if anyone wants to see.

I bought the adjustable ones today in sports... ... them ebay one piece are crap..... but I think if your patient loosen the bottom screw barely and the corner screw and take the top way loose and tip it down till you hit the sweet spot take a quick measurement and stick washers behind the bolt is all you can do, I have a leveling kit in the front and my lights were hitting waaaaaaaay high. ... ..... not to mention the whole light has to come loose if you blow the corner turn bulbs... ... you might do like I did suck it up and get the right ones now and toss those back on ebay cheap, that's what I am doing.

a little trick I do, I find a dark road, ZERO lighting, and I have a dark beach towel and hang it over each headlight and adj the other, really helps adj them quick and get the right coverage. go see if you can adj those before you round file them
