Aircraft Diesel Engines

Typical PSD driver???

Well here it goes again. I am typing this as it was printed in my newspaper Saturday,06-08-02. "Washington" "Three days before the scheduled release of a study linking non-road diesel engines to 8500 premature deaths a year, the Bush administration said Friday that curbing such pollution should be a top environmental priority and suggested voluntary reductions. The study concludes emissions from engines used in Diesel-powered vehicles and equipment such as buldozers, portable generators and tractors should be toughly regulated because of their roll in the promature deaths and an estimated $67 billion in health-care costs annually. " WHATS NEXT... . I guess someone has to be blamed! Chris

biodiesel

Why not encurage the fleet use of off road equipment use biodiesel blend. Add 20% to regular diesel and your emissions clean up. Providing your hoses will accept the veggy oil.

There is alway amsoil's diesel fuel modifier to clean up emissions.

B.S.

My Dad has been running heavy equipment for over 40 years. 65 and still kickin like a mule. Like I've said before F'N TREE-HUGGERS:mad:   ... Doug

Sounds like another Democrat/Communist plan to halt productivity.

They are always trying to stop the engine of the world. Who is John Galt?

I just suggest using a fuel that will keep some farmers employed. The fuel provides lots of bennifits according to www.allpar.com/ed/biodiesel.html . The only down fall is that it needs to be used mostly in climates above 40 deg. There has been improvements to the fuel to allow colder use. For now there seems like there isn't a big want for it. Fuel companies are not selling it to the public unless your in navada, hawaii, and some of california. But for fleet use it seems more widely distributed. Just by visiting the web sights at the bottom of the artical. You can see the different fuel manufactures. The only thing I do not know is sale price. I visited one place here in everett Wa. But since it was a fleet pump. There is no price on the pump.

Biodiesel is a viable alternative, problem is there isn't enough farmland in the US to supply the demand. Nothing wrong with a blend though. We have a researcher at work whose field is developing canola motor oil. He claims that it will take 30% of the current (shrinking every day) US farmland just to supply the three billion gallon annual demand for just motor oil.

Does this mean that I have to now take my D2 down to the smog testing facility and put it on the dyno since it is only two track drive.

I know some farms die out do to their crop isn't needed. Prices drop and they can not meet bills. I just thought this would be a way to sell thier product and keep them in business.

I just thought that off road equiment didn't go through the fuel as much as maybe a trucker. It would provide them with an alternitive to cleaning up thier exhuast. I'm sure it's cheaper than adding a catalytic converter to the system. I just do not know how much per gallon.

dhetrick, using bio-diesel just for offroad rigs to reduce emissions is an excellent idea. So excellent in fact that I emailed my rep and congressman with your idea, something I rarely do. I've heard that when a politician receives a letter that isn't part of a letter writing campaign that they give it great merit. I'm anxious to hear their response.

Copy of letter

Dear Sir, in light of recent proposals to limit emissions from offroad diesel engines, a costly endeavor, how's this for an alternative;

Conversion of red dyed offroad fuel to bio-diesel or a bio-diesel blend. Bio-diesel has been well proven to lower emissions and would also help bolster Montana's sagging agricultural economy. I feel this would be a win - win alterative and sincerely hope you give this your solution you highest consideration.

I've been bugging senator patty murry , Rep. rick larson trying to get our state, local city, fleet vehicals to run 20% biodiesel. That way our school buses, road equipent off road vehicals and street sander trucks would be cleaner. It seems like our local community buses are allready cleaner. School buses still suck when I am behind them.

As for the general public. There just needs to be a place to buy it. Then let the public decide how much they want to clean up thier diesel. If I had a diesel work truck. Sometimes I'd leave the motor running while loading the back. If my eyes water do to bad fuel. I'd try the 20% blend just to see if it cleans it up enough to keep my eyes from watering. Reading the allpar artical. Makes me think that it is better for my motor too.

Personally I want a PT cruiser with the 2. 2L diesel that they offer in europe. Better mileage and lots of torque for that size of vehical.

I'm also trying to encurage daimler /chrylser/ mitsubishi to make a PT pickup. 2dr long 8ft fleetside bed, 2dr ex cab 6ft (stepside, fleet side, flat) bed, 4dr 4ft fleetside bed.

Another nice read is www.pipeline.to/biodiesel/ They cover alot of questions about biodiesel when you click on basics of biodiesel.

As for writing to the white house. I didn't think that level would do much. So that's why I wrote state of washington state rep and senator and national rep and senator. I thought it needed to come from our reps to bring it to the the white house to approve the use of government vehicals using diesel to use a blend of biodiesel. What we need is to get our local county, state to use biodiesel. Our school diesel buses. Our off road equipment state contracted for state construction. Like road projects. City transit diesel buses. At a national level. I just want them to force refineries to remove more sulfer from the diesel fuel. To the same level as europe.

By doing this. We can have more of a future with diesel motors. Like turbo diesel electric hybrids. Besides the fuel savings and emission friendly car being produced. I would like to see a diesel electric hybrid hot rod. For instance the PT cruiser with the 2. 2L mercedes diesel is a good performer. (better than the 2. 0L 132hp /5600 131lb ft /4600 Neon motor that they offer in europe) I figure if they offer that 2. 2L crd (119hp/4200 221lb ft/1600) and add 80hp electric motors. During accelleration of the two motors. That would be similar to the 2. 4L turbo in the PT cruiser GT. Do to the large amount of torque both the diesel and electric motor will provide.
